It's interesting that the thread title is referring to the past. Boys that played in movies, rather than current boys who are starring in new movies.

Considering only material with Asian actors, we're largely offered old material in the 360p~720p range. I don't see many examples of material produced in the 1080p~4k range. One would think high resolution and porn ought to be a perfect match, but there is not much of it around.

I suspect the reason is down to piracy and an inability to charge for the material.
After all, if anything you produce is going to be pirated and charging is impossible, why invest in production ? Even if production ought to be relatively low cost.

Also, perhaps trust is a factor. If there are endless spammy websites, who would trust them with a credit card number ?
I once spotted some very nice twinks on Pornhub, with the promise of a full HD version for subscribers. Since that's one of the better known platforms, I used my back up credit card to subscribe and was offered exactly the same resolution before paying. I asked for and got a full refund. The chances of me repeating the experience are slim.

Of course, the non-porn film industry seems to survive OK in the era of piracy. Perhaps the producers have the scale to use litigation to protect their interests ?

Are there producers really making videos any quantity in Thailand now? I noticed that some like Private Boy Movie and ICS moved for a time over to the Philippines where I suspect movies are a lot cheaper and easier to make.

The piracy issue is no doubt getting worse with vastly more websites to check. Making movies in Thailand was probably a good money spinner in its early days but I doubt it there is any money in it now.
