China and Russia must not emerge as the winners from the coronavirus pandemic, Britain’s ambassador to the U.S. said

Does she that stupid? Or she is just too much imperialistic?

China and Russia must not emerge as the winners from the coronavirus pandemic, Britain’s ambassador to the U.S. said, as she urged the West to show that more open societies thrive.

In an interview with Bloomberg television, Karen Pierce said the U.K. and the U.S. will need to work closely to counter the strategic challenge of China and Russia as the world recovers from the pandemic.

She highlighted the risk that China, in particular, could set the rules for future technological developments in areas such as artificial intelligence, likening it to the spread of nuclear technology in the 1950s.

The soft power wielded by China is unquestionable, mainly due to their huge population. With a swish of the sino wand and Kazakhstan drops out of the winter Olympic bid. Another flick and Mugabe is gone. A dark magic spell and the Dalai Lana is persona non grata, the next one has been in Chinese custody forever. Abracadabra and Hong Kong is shackled. Watch in amazement as whole countries in Africa become virtually Chinese provinces......etc etc etc.

I read recently that due to the racist treatment of the locals by the Chinese in Africa they were starting to outwear their welcome.

China appears to have "won" from the pandemic if you compare NYE celebrations in Beijing with those in other capital cities. The growth in their economy during the pandemic is easily outstripping that of America and the UK.

As a result of calling for an investigation into the origin of the virus China decided to punish Australia economically by cancelling or severely restricting the importation of Australian timber, wine, coal, lobsters, red meat, barley and cotton. Who knows what will be next.

Luckily for us, they still need our iron ore and that is now fetching record prices. China is actively seeking iron ore from elsewhere to cripple our economy, so until it finds it Australia should bump up the price 10 times or more to compensate for future loss of income. That would drastically slow down their economy and could lead to trouble for Xi Jing Ping if the locals start losing their jobs. The Chinese seem content to give up their freedoms but only as long as their standard of living keeps rising. If not, China could see its own "insurrection".

But at the moment, China is "winning" because if you believe the numbers, it has done an outstanding job of suppressing the virus and getting back to normal.
