Remember "Kawai"? It took me years but I eventually discovered that it means "cute" in Japanese.

    Not quite.

The correct word is "kawaii - that extra "i" at the end makes all the difference. Otherwise it's the name of a piano manufacturer.

I thought it was a transliteration of Thai slang 'kuai' for banana.

I'm not sure whether all this is relevant but there have certainly been some odd names for our beloved bars, though none I can recall quite as strange as Pikky.

I recall The Mask in Bangkok,....perhaps a good name for our Covid-era. Something to do with that Jim Carrey movie, perhaps? I assume Sundance in Sunee also had associations with a famous film.

In my language that is quite an (still!) obscene word. Kids will be reprimanded if they use it the wrong way.
But not so much bars, but these massage houses: the BANK, AQUA, nr. 9 (no, not 69)
Above names: (old post of 5/7/21) Japanese its Kah-wah-ee!. Many bars seem to aim at a certain clientele, or perhaps the owner in the back end hails from there and then chooses a name fit for that. Confusions with other words are usually intended.
Banana in thai is kLuay. Kuay is the name for buffalo (a very common and loved animal by the ever shrinking nr of real farmerboys from Isany) and as its in thai so close to the dirty word for the male organ used as such.
For those wanting to see well equipped Thai: onlyfans, search for kuay-super. Has always 3 cockrings on his dong. Also on some poh-sites like xhamster and boyfriendtv

In the Complex next to Sun Bar (close to The Venue) a new bar is being build: Dragon Music Lounge Pattaya. As far as I know it will be a kind of show bar with available male dancers with loud music.

If there is loud music, I hope the punters stay away until they come to their senses and I hope it's behind a closed door, so the noise does not carry to the other bars.
If Jomtien really is zoned as "residential", as is often repeated, but never proven, then the one thing they should stop is loud music. Certain bars already have the occasional unreasonably loud party.

As soon as bars, etc. are allowed to open there will be another bar in the Complex opening it's doors: Dorothys Showbar .... It will be next to Double Shot Bar in the former restaurant Olivier. It proves that the Complex will open again fully when the restrictions are lifted. There will be shows in The Venue, M2M, The Palace, Dragon Music Lounge and then Dorothys. I really hope they have different shows for different people otherwise it will be survival of the best.
