prep if taken as directed is as safe as condoms...wearing a condom will not help with veneral diseases unless you wear one before u even get naked as oral sex can transmit them too and that would be so sad...a bj with a condom...might as well not do it. 100% this. I've never been done bareback and it's a fantasy I'll hopefully fulfill one day, but PREP won't be relied upon. It's all about knowing your partner - well! Gawd knows how many other sorts of infections PREP has caused by making people think unsafe sex is safe..

Sounds like a fairly risky strategy.

I agree with David. Prep provides (an arguably) "false" sense of security, that, while generally effective against HIV, provides zero protection against other STI's. Syphilis is on the rise, and given the permanent complications (inc brain damage, liver damage and visual impairment) not to mention the body rash and warts/sores in the mouth and genitals, it's something I'd prefer to avoid if I can.

There's also a strain of Gonorrhea going around that's resistant to antibiotics.

Like most guys I luuurve the idea of bareback sex with other guys but as long as I'm not too fucked up on 'substances' my left brain generally always kicks in and I'll use condoms when it comes to anal.

So if I'm planning on some rooting, I'll make sure I've got a supply of condoms beforehand.
