Motorized Bicycles???

For 25 years until 2014, I always rented a small motorcycle to get around Pattaya. Only had one small accident. It appears that licensing and police stops makes this a bad idea but I liked the freedom. An elderly friend recently purchased a electric bicycle and he loves it but he's in the USA. Are these available in Pattaya? More importantly, are they a death trap?

E-bikes are more popular in hilly areas when the motor power kicks in to get you to the top. I wouldn’t say they are much of an asset in mostly flat Pattaya, where cycling is for the brave (I hired one a few years ago - but wouldn’t do so again). E-bikes are no more a death trap than a standard cycle being normally limited to 15 mph, above which the motor closes down.
