As a number of posters have said here over the years, it simply represents a desire to censor posters and posts that the accuser doesn't like

Come on Freq, you very well know that is just too simple to stand alone. Your quote from "some" posters above may very well be the main reason why some few would want a poster ignored, but give me a break. It is annoying to have someone (troll) jump in and ruin the flow of a thread. Not because that troll jumped in, but because of all the idiots who reply to him. In French, all Francois is trying to say is, "please, get your heads out of your asses and quit feeding a troll." I hope you can all read my French.

I did use the Ignore feature today to see how it worked. Not quite as I had expected. Instead of the posters disappearing there was this message:

This message is hidden because xxxx is on your ignore list.

Almost like taunting me to be put them back on un-ignore. That is not the fault of the ignored posters, but a fault of the system.

I find it easy to completely ignore such posts. After all, the offenders only got on my ignore list as they never write anything worth reading.
However, a much more subtle ignore message would be preferable. Perhaps one line in a faint grey font.

Ah. It sounds simple but other members quote them so avoiding what's been written is virtually unavoidable.
