Fashion tips for the 50+ man

I came across this article in today's reading and I thought I'd pass it on. I was particularly thinking of The Wombat and his penchant for wearing calf-length shorts while ambling around Pattaya, although he is, as we all know, 80+ rather than 50+. One point the writer stresses is the importance of good footwear, rather than lonely's usual sandals-with-socks. If you stamp your foot as often as lonelywombat does, sturdy shoes are a "must"

Re: Fashion tips for the 50+ man

Some years ago ~ I think I was about 56 ~ I was given a birthday present from a good friend (female): a pair of khaki pants the legs of which came to rest between my knees and my feet. More than ghastly.
Given that I had mentioned more than once, in a nice tone, that I never, ever wanted a gift of clothing of any kind, from any one. Please don't bother, chances are more than likely they would end up in the rubbish pile immediately.
But no, she carried on, I smiled not an iota.

Having seen the gift her 18 year old daughter took one look ~ I had been pushed to try them on ~ and used the phrase "Hmmm ... absolutely not age-appropriate ... also bad legs". I never saw that woman again, nor her vile daughter.
But the bitch was quite correct, and I hope nobody on this board neither owns a few of these peddle-pushes, much less ever wearing a pair. I think I recall, years ago one night strolling through Sunnee Plaza, that I caught Gaybutton wearing a pair, also strolling, or sitting.
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

What was the nobody pushing to peddle?

There are a number of farang who do wear very long pair of shorts that don't quite reach their feet and these shorts have some sort of strings dangling from the hems. I recall they were named Capri Pants?

Regarding Gaybutton, I only recall he wearing baggy, swim trunks but that was a few years ago.

Back in the day Francois ~~ and you would have been too young to remember ~~ these pants were called 'peddle pushers'. And they came with sheep!
I'm sure they have a new name ('Capris' will do) for them these days but they are as atrocious now as then. That goes 4 times + more ghastly on men.
So please Francois, throw your collection away right now.

I would never wear such 3/4th or 7/8th trousers (under these names, referring to the fraction of length compared to standard length, I know them), and find them highly unattractive (fortunately, I don't remember seeing them worn by SEAsian men; for 50+ I don't care).

A general observation of my travels in SEAsia is that in Myanmar the hair on head is cut shorter, but the trousers are longer than in Thailand (men age 20-30, what others wear, I don't care). In Thailand I/we are blessed with men wearing shorts that reach half only way to the knee, allowing my to visually check for body hair on upper thighs, and I found myself fantasizing slipping my hand in and moving up to the crotch.
