After an exhausting work period, last Saturday afternoon was my first free time for over a fortnight.

Bath house or porn? I mused. The former had my vote until the heavens opened, so I decided to go in search of some fresh Asian gay porn.

I'd signed up to Private Boy Movie a long time ago when they only had a small offering. Noticing that they had enlarged their catalogue and uprated their video quality, I signed up again.

Downloading is easy, and the MP4 videos play fine on my PC - but will they play on on my Sharp 'Smart' TV?

Nope..

No other MP4 video I've downloaded has ever failed on this TV - although it hates just about every other video format.

I've tried converting these videos to other formats and then back to MP4, but to no avail..

PBM does not seem to be hot on customer service - an email is so far unanswered.

Anyone else had this problem? - or know how to crack it?

Old git, these Smart TV are really not very smart. Is assume you tried to play downloaded mp4 from TV USB input. I have similar expetience with video files, some play, but some do not, both are MKV files, Matroshka video codec, yet TV does not recognize some MKV, but play other MKV. TV firmware can not be updated, it it does not play that codec, nothing we can do.

I never found solution, as you tried, converting mp4 to, lets say, AVI does not help.
I just keep laptop and TV connected with HDMI cable, and either expand desktop to TV, or make TV your Primary display. As long as laptop plays the file, it is on TV screen as well. Use 10 meter HDMI cable. Macbook Pro used to have Mini Port, a stupid Apple only port, but there are dongle adaptors that let you use HDMI cable, newer Macbooks use usb-c, so another adaptor is needed.
Bad news is older laptops, some had S-VHS output for external monitor, some had 20 pin display ports, new TV do not have these inputs, then it is tricky to get laptop extended to TV.

Connecting a computer to a TV is very simple and basic, not something unusual, or going "extra length", it only seems to you that way because you seem very limited and slow. Something simple and basic may seem extraordinary to a simpleton.
