The Chinese, in particular, are simply returning to type - they are the Middle Kingdom (ie. the centre of the world) and everyone should kowtow to them. Many of the others could be put down to mendicant countries pissing off their richer patrons. I'd have to say during all the years I spent in the US I never heard an American talk about Canada - it was simply an irrelevance
