    Big Brother really is watching

Many years ago Smiles coined the phrase about one of the then advertising links on SGT - "the Cornucopia of Filth". So I'll happily use that word even though it's three syllables longer than many of our members can handle

I sat down last evening, avoiding the SGT nest of vipers, to read the latest edition of The Atlantic - and what a cornucopia of stimulating thoughts it is. There's a collection of articles about our work and social lives, including the tools Big Brother is using to spy on us at work - assuming we're still working. One of them mentions the applications that can be used by employers to spy on their employees; one is via the latest, greatest workplace chat tool Slack. There's an add-on called Vibe that can assess the mood of a workplace team based not only on what they write but also the emojis they use. Another article discusses our personal social networks and reaffirms that the most utilitarian social circle is little more than 100 (some scholarly articles mention 150). That's certainly true of SGT for example, where a significant number of regular posters are on my Ignore list because I find their posts of no value. I hope that I also figure on their Ignore lists, but based on what I read when I scan the What's New list if I forget to log in that's a vain hope. Laziness? Masochism? In passing I wonder how many members realise the rich trove of metadata SGT is collecting about each of us every time we log on? IP address only?! Pfft. That's not how they work out if a poster is a duplicate

And in the spirit of On the Internet nobody knows you're a dog there's an article on how Afghan boys are creating false female profiles so they can befriend and chat to girls

    Ah, life's rich tapestry

Hehe... To think about IP and don't think how many info you are leaving just by posting? You should afraid not a Big Brother, but Big Data Analysis. You vocabulary, frequency of this or that words what you are using, breadcrumbs of personal info what you are leaving on SGT's pages will tell about you much more than info what forum collected. Hint: google "shingles" and "n-gramm" methods.

SGT records: IPs, emails, nicknames. I will not comment how robots are looking for doubles, but nobody nowadays uses IPs for to search for clones.

Our OP should be more afraid that a true Big Brother, especially if a state actor, would read his posts and come with a straight jacket. However, that would solve one of the boards' problems.

Bullies rarely like a taste of their own medicine. Hence I'm on the two biggest board bullies ignore list.

Not at the moment judging by the 'like'.

If you believe there's any evidence of that, paborn, it's your duty as a member of the Forum to draw the Moderators' attention to it. Problem is, the only time the Moderators acted on what they thought was grounds for such action their tomfoolery was exposed. Apposite or what?

I recognize that phrase, but I think you've got it slightly wrong. I do believe that I used it, not about some obscure "advertising link", but a description of the Sawatdee Board itself, as well as the depraved and degenerate members who posted on it.

However, I've now become quite mild and love flowers and small dogs.
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

Nah, Bob had worked up some revenue-sharing arrangement with a porn site; I remember it well because I used it occasionally for a time, before the days of almost free porn on sites like xvideo. If you search on Cornucopia the very first thread that comes up in my results (from 2006) includes a hit of 534 of "Cornucopia of Filth". It doesn't prove my point but I also think Bob actually rebranded the link itself, which would explain the very high number of hits
