It doesn't take much knowledge of Thai culture to know that there is an art to the use of a "wai"; for a foreigner it is best not to "wai".

I completely agree. But, the OP gave no indication of any knowledge at all. I was really feeling sorry that Josan made a simple remark, trying to be helpful, and OFF we go...

    Re: black gay in Thailand

My being black has been more of a benefit to me in Thailand. I find it allows me to claim poverty and be believed with little suspicion. If I am out with caucasian friends, I will pretend that I have no money of my own and the money I do spend is thanks to the charity of my friend. I will even make up an imaginary benefactor financing my holiday to allow me favorable negotiations.

So I use my race and the perceptions they may have of my race to work in my favor and I am often successful. As an example, I am often asked why I change my room so often? I may tell them I change because my friend is paying for room and he changes my room because he gets lower rate. I will also add that I don't mind because I don't have money to pay for room. I may also mention that I have to budget the little money he gives me to last all week. Hey internet board guys, don't judge me! haha! These tactics have turned a 1500 baht offer down to a 500 baht deal. Once all is done , if I feel the encounter was worth more I can give it. If the encounter was worth 500 or less... I can give the 500 and move on.

Back to the issue. As I have said. Being black has been great for me in the way of sex. In thailand the black man is an exotic thing. Like in the USA, if a Asian guy were in our local bar, he would turn heads as there are not many asian guys here. He would also get his fair share of attention and offers for possible sex. In thailand I enjoy attention from Russian, Indian, Asian, African and others who want to be able to say they fucked an American Black guy. It helps if you are in ok shape but the better you look the more attention you may get.

I've attached a picture to show what I looked like years ago when I first started visiting Thailand.

Back in the days of Gay.com. I use to talk to a Thai guy that let me know up front that he was not interested in black guys but he was very helpful with his advice and warnings of Thailand. He even was kind enough to show me around. When we first met I felt he may have been attracted to me, but I was not sure since he let me know that he had no desire to have sex with a black guy.

During my trip, he sent me a message over gay.com. Remember, this was a time before Cell Phones were all the rage. I was in a cyber cafe near the Pinnacle hotel. He let me know he wanted to have sex with me. I reminded him that he didn't like black guy. Not that there is anything wrong with that. The heart wants what the heart wants... He explained that after meeting me he changed his mind. So he came to my room. I approached sex with him differently then I have anytime in the past with anyone. In the past I approached sex trying to make my partner happy. This time I didn't care if he enjoyed it or not. I just did what I wanted. I did whatever I wanted to do. If there was a part of his body I wanted to lick or kiss, I did it. If he was chocking, I didn't care so much. If there was something I saw in a porn movie that I wanted to try, I did it with him being there. I felt it was a one time never to be repeated thing because I knew in his heart of heart he was not into me because of my skin.

When I returned home and logged onto gay.com, we chatted and soon he was asking me if I had any black friends in Bangkok? As it turns out he was now into black guys and wanted to find more black guys to have sex with. I told him about the rumors I heard of African guys that hung out in certain areas.

Back when Dream Boys was in its old location, I was there on a slow night looking for a hot guy to off. Next to me was a young guy from Isreal. He was handsome but he looked like any guy I could meet here at home so I had no interest in him. He moved closer to me, offered to buy me a drink and was soon touching my leg. I brushed his hands away only to find him back at it but now trying to run his hands up my shorts. The guys on stage were pointing at us and the host was not amused. I got up to leave and he followed me out... Sigh.... I have have more incidents like that than I can count. It was not bad, but it was unwanted attention but I would not undo it even if I had the power to turn back time.

I can go on and on about the good. Now for the bad. The only thing that comes to mind is when I went to Pattaya. I saw in a good mood. It was the first night on my return trip to Pattaya. I wanted to hit the bars running! I figured I would bar hop in Sunee Plaza before going to the shows in BoyzTown. So why not begin at the beginning? So I figured I would start the night at Power Boys. I was walking so fast to get there you would think I was running! haha! When I stepped off the road onto their entryway, the ladyboy sitting by the door, leapt to her feet, blocked the door and told me I had to pay 300 or 400 baht to get in. I forget the exact amount but if anyone wants to, they can look up my old post and find the exact baht amount.

I refused to pay an entry fee. No one else was paying an entry fee so why should I? I decided to take my business elsewhere. With the staff of Power Boys watching, I went next door to Nice Boys. They had a look of confusion on their face probably wondering why their neighbor bar would not let me in and if they should refuse me entry? When I entered the bar, an older asian man informed me that it was a gay bar. (I am often asked if I am military or Police). I informed them I am gay. Once I got comfortable and drinks and tips flowed, they acted sad that I was leaving to other bars. One outside, a few of the guy came running out to grope me, sniff my neck and thank me. The staff of Power Boys witnessed the attention I was getting and asked me to enter their bar. I declined.

The next year when I returned, I wanted to see if Power Boys would let me in. I was blocked from entry again and told I had to pay an entry fee. No problem, back to Nice Boys. When I was leaving, a guy from Power Boys stopped me and wanted to know where I was from. I told him USA. He told me they were sorry and if I have a problem at the door in the future, to tell them I am from USA and they will let me in. So the next year I tried that and they still didn't let me in LOL! Now it is a running joke for me. I go to Power Boys just to see if we can keep the streak running.

I must mention that I did go to Power Boys with a white guy I met in Boyz Town. I knew they would let me in with him and I was kinda sad that I would be going in there knowing it would kinda do damage to the rejection streak I was building up with them. Well their drinks were expensive compared to Nice Boys. So I hope they continue to reject me, but I didn't even try to enter their bar when I was there in 2017.

Let me also add this. I met a guy from Africa in Bangkok. He was outgoing, youthful, friendly and able to draw a crowd with his personality alone. He kinda forced his friendship on me and I later came to appreciate him and what he did to become my friend. I invited him to join me on my trip to Pattaya. When we hung out, he got a lot of attention. He had a love/hate relationship with attention. He liked it when it got him what he wanted but hated it when it got him nothing but attention. I had to laugh at him. He complained but I reminded him that he dyed his hair blond at the top with a stylish fade up the side, that with his strong masculine looks, slight body, strong legs, bulging crotch and stylish clothes told the world, NOTICE ME! I reminded him that his looks got him free entry to DJ Station. When we went into gogo bars, the guys would go crazy over him. When we walked down walking street, people would stop us to have their picture taken with him. He was a great guy. He had no job, he made his living spending time with Farang visitors to Thailand. It had to be a difficult living for him. He depended on the white men to make a living, but he was very prejudiced and spoke hatefully of every white guy he saw. He even spoke with hate of the guys that paid his rent, put food on his table and provided him with spending money. No matter how many times I tried to show him how much of a hypocrite he was, he could not see it.

I tell you that to say that life if what you make it. If you have a bad moment, move on from that moment. A moment in time won't last forever. You can't hold onto the good moments in life, so why try to hold onto the bad moments in life. Keep it moving, build memories, enjoy the good and the bad. Let life deliver the situations that others only read about. Like the time a Thai friend visited me in my hotel room with a friend. His friend wanted to meet and talk to a Black guy... We talked for a while. When my friend went to the bathroom, his friend and I dropped our pants and 69'ed to orgasm and were back to our chairs just in time for my friends exit from the bathroom.

    Enjoy your trip to Thailand.

Below is a Pic of Power Boys and what I looked like back when I was in my sexual and social prime!

My comment about "if only he could have given us some subtle way of knowing that, perhaps with his profile name etc" was actually more intended as a lighthearted joke to "Blacktouch's" comment about Bucknaway not being the only black member on the board.

So it's true what they say: once you go black, you'll never go back.

bucknaway, Nirish's tongue is always planted in one cheek or another and usually everywhere in between.

Thanks for sharing your story; I enjoyed reading it.

Noted that this affectation is getting around. Excellent, eh?

PS ... the word "eh" is normally coupled with a question mark, except when a Canadian is attempting to explain the many uses of the word (or is it a phrase?)"eh". Eh?

Not many people know this, but an "eh?" on the end of a sentence is often coupled with the subtle movement of the head to the right ~ never the left ~ and a withering look straight into the other's eyes and kept that stance for 5 seconds. We do this so as not to actually say out loud "... you're a fucking idiot ... right?", which might not end well.

    There are nuances!
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

    And Thais are clean????
They heard you and made changes.
With the new toilet comes a few changes.

    Drinks are now 2,000 baht
Off fee is now 1,100 baht
but a square of toilet paper is still only 5 baht.
