Re: Boyztown
Gerefan takes a cynical view but my experiences of travelling all over Thailand from south to far north for twelve years, staying in family hotels with my Thai boyfriend ( and yes, I met him in a bar in Pattaya) suggests differently. He is acutely aware of his role and sensitive to remarks or looks. In all that time, I recall only an odd look from a British couple in a Chiang Rai hotel and a rather abstract sense of unease on a boat-trip to Phi Phi from some Australians.
Even taking into account natural reticence of Thai citizens, P. would have noticed if something were wrong. And told me.
Come to think of it, the only overt hostility ( expressed in Thai, and so I wasn't aware of it) occurred in Central, Pattaya and involved a couple of Thai teenagers.
Of course, my reference to "respect"alluded to other gay travellers in Pattaya.
