    Re: Bye Bye Thailand

I have a good friend who lives part-time in Cuenca Ecuador. She loves it. As a heterosexual woman she is not chasing young cock (or at least I don't think she is - but I may underestimate her post menopausal libido) as her boyfriends in the past have tended toward late 50s early 60s gentlemen - which is a mystery to me but I digress. She loves the food in Cuenca, the ex-pat community, the Ecuadorian people, the history, the compact city living, the music, the dancing, the markets,...etc. According to her she lives on about 1500 USD a month and "lives like a queen" - her words.
I have been talking about taking a trip to Quito to check it out..but have not found anyone who want to go with me. My friend is currently working a contract job in the USA so at present she is not available to travel back to Ecuador. Quito is at 2800 meters elevation and 50 KM from the equator - darn near perfect weather - 22-16 C year round.
I do love the guys in thailand..but I am exploring other options for retirement.

When looking at potential retirement destinations, how much do you consider the ease with family members could visit? It would be pretty important to me.

It's 2018. Geographical location isn't as important as it once was. Watch a couple movies, take a shit, and you're pretty much anywhere in the world you want to be.

Now if you decide to move to space, which is starting to appear it may become a possibility within my lifetime, then that may be quite difficult. Any where on earth is quite easy though.

Why would someone want family members to visit them?

And rather embarrassing for some, I'd imagine.

I agree with Joe but I suspect Joe and I are looking for different completely opposite outcomes. Joe probably want his family to visit.I want to be as far away as possible from my family so that there is no possibility they would visit. As you might guess DNA is not a strong bond in my familial group.

Hmm..and why would that be excellent news? I assume it is a feeble attempt at an insult. I find it sad that you seem to need to create drama by insulting people.

    LOL..thanks Joe.
If you are close to your family living many time zones away apparently is not an option for you. I am happy you are close to your family.
I was in Portugal last winter - visiting my foster son (I love that boy) - and I would love to retire there but as an American it is not as easy for me to retire in Portugal as it is for Europeans.
