    Tinnies

Tinnies is my favourite place to eat in the Jomtien area. Its speciality is pies and I like pies. There are various beef pies, chicken pies, lamb pies, mixed vegetable pies and for dessert various fruit pies. Did I mention it specialises in pies? Whenever I go there, which is about once a week, I look long and hard at the various offerings in the glass cabinet and then almost always choose the pepper steak pie with mash, peas and gravy. With a soft drink that comes to 290 baht. The other available side is french fries with salad. I've never had anything but tender beef in my pies; it comes in a thick gravy and generously fills the delicious pastry case. Other available items include breakfasts, sandwiches, fish and chips and lasagna. I can vouch for the excellence of the last item.,

The owner is a friendly Australian who had a successful pie shop in Tasmania before moving to Thailand and his experience certainly shows. I asked him once if the beef is imported, but no, it's Thai beef which he checks carefully on delivery - if it's not up to standard he sends it back. He's very open to customer suggestions. I once told him I liked balsamic dressing with my salad and the next time I went there, it was available.

For those who don't know Tinnies, it's on the corner of the Dick's Cafe soi where it meets the main road. For years that seemed like a jinxed site, with businesses coming and going in quick succession, but there is an air of stability now. It's not usually busy when I go there of an evening but the owner tells me there is a steady flow of customers all day, mainly for takeaways. His body language and ready smile certainly suggest that he is doing well and in fact he has just opened a well-designed balcony area upstairs.

It's a clean, no-frills, functional place, not somewhere you would probably want to go for a celebration. But if, like me, you like simple, tasty food at a reasonable price for your regular diet, it's hard to beat Tinnies.

Super Dooper post Mr S. Face. Now the whole board is hungry and wants to eat a pie and not just any pie but one like you've described.

Another excellent restaurant review, snotface, the topic heading of which had me intrigued.

But you may have just answered the long standing and usually unanswerable question; who ate all the pies? I didn’t have you marked down as a pie-eater, more of a slim-Jim, for some unexplainable reason.

When back in the UK, I have been known to eat the occasional chicken and ham pie, but don’t think I’ve ever eaten a pie in Thailand. Out here, I am too conscious of my need to keep my ever expanding waistline under some sort of control and not to surrender to my food cravings.

Mmmmm . . . right now a chicken and ham pie sounds very appetising. Alas, arsenal, what my body wants and what it gets is rarely the same thing. Sadly, it’s a simple salad for me tonight.

Can I just volunteer that, in Glasgow at least, a pie is a vulgar term for a vagina

As Stanley Baxter might (but certainly wouldn't) have said in his Parliamo Glasgow broadcasts "HAWHENGONNYGEEZASWATCHAEYERPIE which translates as "Excuse me young lady, may I please view your vagina"

Tinnies is indeed a small treasure. I've yet to visit Jomtien without poking my head in at least once, often twice, a day! PeterUK turned me on to this little gem a couple of years ago.
And, you'll be happy to know that Vagina Pie is not yet on the menu. Not sure about snot however.
Just another reason why I love living in Thailand

Oh dearie-me! You’re in trouble now scottish-guy, yes siree, real big trouble! Morphing a topic on a review of pies to a banned word.

I’m surprised the forum’s automatic censorship robot didn’t pick up your use of the banned word, which I won’t repeat for the sake of propriety (and, if truth be told, cos’ I don’t want any demerits) but it starts with a ‘v’ and ends in an ‘a’. That’s 3 demerit points at least, if I am not mistaken.

And, another 3 demerit points for excessive use of font colour in a single post. It’s a clear breach of Sawatdee Penal Code, Section 352(g).

Directly opposite there's a food shack that does good Thai food until about 3.00am. It's often a stop off point before a night time ride along the beach.

Well, I like to think of myself as slim-ish, certainly by Pattaya standards. I don't think it would be unkind of me to describe the Australian owner as of generous girth, and that usually acts as a deterrent if my mind wanders to the possibility of having one of his yummy lemon meringue pies for dessert.

I have a recurrent fantasy of being a waiter in a posh restaurant. An extremely fat customer enters and sits at a table. I greet him and he asks if I have any recommendations du jour. A faint, knowing smile crosses my lips and I lean forward conspiratorially. He leans forward too in eager expectation. 'Well, sir,' I say politely, 'I can highly recommend the green salad...'

Mr S. Face. Your post comes perilously close to fatism. Please keep it up. Americans might like to look away now.

I just had to check and it turn out you're correct Smiles - there's no mention of Fish pie at all:
