    Bangkok's tallest skyscraper: MahaNakorn

Anyone heard of this this new 77-level high residential (plus retail) building development in Bangkok? It's called MahaNakorn. It's due for completion 2012. Apparently it will be Thailand's tallest building. Looks awesome. It will be in the Sathorn/Silom area beside Chong Nonsi Station (near the Sofitel Silom).

I've been wondering what kind of place I'd get if I ever bought a place in Bangkok. I think if I ever commit to a Thai guy as a life partner, I will need to get a place in Bangkok, either as a drop pad or somewhere to live full time. He'll want to be near his family and such. All this is bloody long time away yet but it's nice to dream ahead... :happy7:

I love the design and the height. Think of the views. Not so sure about the location. Think I'd prefer a place closer to Sukhumvit, Lumpini or Lang Suan.

    Here is the website: http://www.maha-nakhon.com/

Here are some Cambodians complaining about the bloody Thais LOL:
The thai had done it again. But this time they use our great ancient Khmer empire name MohaNokor to name their stupid tallest building.

The building is now completed and operational.
However the silhouette reminds me of a moth-eaten uncut phallus.

What a varied life you must lead dinagam

The large Dean & Delucca deli/restaurant that graced the ground floor is now permanently closed. However given latintopxxx's strictures against my recent post on the weather in Bangkok and the Moderators' decision to move it to Everything Else I wonder how long this thread will survive in the "Gay Thailand" Forum

I think it looks rather like a couple of Boeing 767's crashed into it. Minus the smoke.
    Whatever ... it's massively ugly.

    Re: Bangkok's tallest skyscraper: MahaNakorn

I first noticed the building in March this year but was pressed for time to stop for a visit, until yesterday.
Unlike Alice who fell down the rabbit hole into the underground, I went up the shaft at 450m per minute, taking less than a minute to reach the viewing platform.
Tickets can be purchased online, as well at the foyer.
Young and strapping arsenal will have to fork out 880b, whereas citizens of the world above 60 years need only pay 250b. I wonder if this is enticing enough to lure MFAS out of his Pattaya lair.
The weather late morning was hazy and balmy, which is reflected in the following pics.
The advantage being there early is to avoid the crowds.

At about 300m in height the tower is not as tall as the Tokyo Skytree, but the views are impressive nevertheless.
The entire periphery of the Mahanakorn Tower top is made of 2m high and 5cm thick transparent glass, and the glass bottom viewing platform is cantilevered from the main structure.
I was confident enough to do a few 'ramvong' Thai moves, although the supervisors were adamant that I did not try any grand jeté or changement battu movements.

The view of the sin quarter of Silom is not very sharp and the two green patches are the hippodrome and Lumpini Park to the right. I've also taken a view of river from the cottage on the 72nd floor.
To exit the building one has to go through a labyrinth of Kingpower duty-free shop.

    Thank you Dinagram.
The last time I visited a tower viewing platform it was the Canton Tower in Guangdong. Purchasing an all inclusive ticket gave me a ride in the bubble cars that shimmy around the roof top edge. Upon seeing them I wished I hadn't. Rather scary looking.

Fortunately being Guangdong it was it's usual mist and fog so I couldn't actually see anything further than a few meter.

I do however harbour an ambition to eat at the top of the Banyan Tree Hotel.

I agree with dinagam. It is something well worth doing.
    A nicely written review.

Arsenal, I've never been to Banyan Tree Hotel, but you can also drink and snack at the top of Mahanakorn Tower, and from the limited items in the menu below. However comfortable seating areas are quite limited. Maybe my next visit will be for taking in the sunset on a clear day.
