During the course of reading this I stopped just short of an underpants change.
I believe it because a cut-down version happened to me in a Bangkok hotel 6 years ago. I was having breakfast but couldn't swallow a thing because of a tall, blond, 22ish guy who was in deep conversation with a man I took to be his father.
Next thing he was crouched down beside me and made it known that he caught me watching him. I apologised but he silenced me with "what is your room number?"
