The people you're talking about who do those supply runs live in south eastern Laos, so Thailand is the closest spot for them to get those consumables. I'm sure Vientiane is fine, and again, if not, Leo will go to Nong Khai for supply runs when needed.
I've actually had the misfortune of traveling to Vientiane on several occasions. Uzbekistan (where I used to work) had far more to offer than Laos did, and the choices there sucked! The food you do find in Vientiane is horribly overpriced, to the point that eating it would not even be enjoyable. I'm not sure where you eat in Khon Kaen, but I assure you there are many, many more choices for Western food here than there ever will be in Vientiane. We are lacking for nothing in Khon Kaen, right down to grilled lamb chops if that is what floats your boat. Just because a lot of people live somewhere does not mean that items are easy to come by...I choose to eat a majority Thai food because not only does my husband cook extremely well, I find it to be far more satisfying. On the occasion when I do want some 'comfort food from home', however, there are quite a few restaurants and shops within easy driving distance anywhere in KK.

    Cheers -

@KKJason -- Where's the local Irish pub in town? Oh right, there isn't one. The closest we have is that Aussie bar close to Tuckom, and that place sucks and is filled with hookers.

Where is the best Italian food? That would be Pomodoros, right? During the nights the owner isn't in the kitchen and just leaves it up to the line cooks, I can cook better Italian food than that at home.

Then I guess there's other places like Yoko Thai, Smiles, and others, but none of them are exactly extravgent. They're good, but nothing that Vientiane doesn't offer as well. Just go down that street close to the Mekong, and there's tons of excellent places in Vientiane as well.

And considering Vientiane has enough of an expat population to support an international school that offers an Australian cirricullum, I don't think we'll have a problem finding things like parmasean cheese or sour cream.

Oh, that one is easy. Just fire off funds to this Thai bank account:

    Name bank ธนาคารกรุงเทพ สาขามุกดาหาร
    Numbers 6637 000 958

    เมื่อ จ.

Then go pick up our Laos Kip. It's a payment service, similar to Western Union, except at about 10% of the cost.

And you're not making payments in Bitcoin. You're converting Bitcoin; exactly the same as if your store of value was gold

Yes, what's your point? It's a WHOLE lot easier for my clients to send me funds via bitcoin than via traditional means. Then yes, we have to convert it into cash.

Just because your clientele is the Russian mafia and various pornographers doesn't make Bitcoin anything useful for us. So why aren't you using that vast trove of your to buy yourself a 20-year visa for Thailand - it will only take two of them for a 20-year Thailand Elite visa?

Because my husband is a Laos citizen, feels out of place in Thailand, and we're both sick of the VISA runs every 30 days.

That, and we're planning to adopt two Laos children. It will be at least one year before we have the necessary paperwork in place to be able to take them out of the country.

Just a few hours ago you were whining that "Thailand doesn't provide me with a path to reside here, because I'm gay, don't have kids, am under retirement age, etc.". Now your story has changed completely (me showing you that that was as you have always known a pack of lies) and you are leaving Thailand for Laos willingly. By the way, it's these inconsistencies that are for me the clincher that you're a real person. Anyone setting out to create a fantasy life would provide far more consistency, whereas these posts show that you're basically a total fuckwit
