    Travel tips

There's a short article in today's Irish Times about travel tips to avoid some of the stress of air travel. Given that most of us fly long haul to get to Thailand (24 hours for me from Dublin) what would be your best travel tips?

    (1) Business Class!
Treat yourself well on 10hr + flights. Can't leave home without it.

    (2) Stop overs of at least 2 hours (no less, no more).
Incheon Airport -- just as an example -- provides dreamy shower rooms for any class. Most Biz Class lounges do as well.

    (3) Don't be a glutton and eat too much on a plane. You'll just end up with a tight, full, bloated feeling. Most uncomfortable. The very thought of eating three big meals within 10+ hours makes me gag.

    (4) People-watching in airports. Flyers are in general a pretty weird group. I love watching nerds look they've been caught, like a deer on the road, wide-eyed and always just on the verge of freaking out.
    Always priceless.

For you? Don't get on a 13 hour flight only to have a stop over in Taipai, as they don't allow smoking anywhere within the secure area of the aiport. That sucks. Get off a 13 hour flight, only to have to sit in the terminal for another 7 hours, before getting back on the plane for another 6 hour flight.

Don't look now but Joe is some kind of Irish person who, odd that it may be, flies the Dubai thing, not the Pacific thing.
Or, are you one of those Flat Earther things and don't know whether you're coming or going. (Think: "Lao" or not "Lao" ... "Chiang Mai" or not "Chiang Mai").
Doesnt really matter becaused Joe smokes a few fags in the plane's hong nham.

Well, sneaking a cig on the plane isn't that bad. I remember one old lady who did that, and tried to cover it up by dousing herself in some raspberry scented sprary, as if we wouldn't notice.

As long as Joe doesn't end up sitting by the emergency exit door, decide he's too hot while sitting on the runway, and flips the door open to get some air, forcing the chutes to immediately unfold forcing the crew to spend hours folding them back into the airplane, then we should be good to go. I remember when an air steward told me that story. That must have been a fun day of work.

Just for the record, I fly East from Dublin, this time via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines.

First time to Asia was a trip to the Phllippines (sorry can't spell that). Back in the mid 90s. Smoking allowed at the back of the cabin. We got quite a little group going. Great fun. I also used the phone on the plane to call my Mam, and paid for the lady beside me to make a call.

Nothing to do with the thread.

    @Smiles

Are you affected by the water levels in HH? Even in Australia, HH is all over the news presently.

Philippines (named in honor of King Philip II of Spain if that helps you).
