    Insomnia

I suffer badly from insomnia - which is why I'm posting at 4.30am! Are there any late night/early morning bars in South Pattaya? In the past I've just bought cans from 7/11 and had them on my balcony. Is there an alternative? Also, what about early breakfast? I had breakfast at Ambience and it was good, but they don't start serving till 7.30, if I remember correctly. Any tips?

    Re: Insomnia

I think bars close between midnight and 2 am, and discos between 2 am and 4 am, all depending on the venue in question and the political situation. But karaoke get busy after midnight and go until sunrise. In Bangkok there are saunas that open til 6 am, and on weekends there are indeed activities until then (info from friends, the few times I stayed until 4 am there was a decline from peak around 1 am). Nowadays I prefer to be in bed before midnight on normal days and before 2 am when going out. Others can probably provide more information.

I think Christian is right on the money with his post. Go with that.
If you cannot abide Thai karaoke (most can't), not a fan of sauna shenanigans at 5 in the morning, and feel too old for crunchingly loud disco at 4AM, and don't wish to sit on ManForAllSeasons' face at 3:30AM . . . then I'm afraid you, and your can of Leo, and your balcony, will have to get seriously together in a somewhat kinky menage a trois.

    Re: Insomnia

Im quite sure Joe has seen a specialist regarding his insomnia. But just in case, here is an excellent website.
Insomnia can be caused by both medical and psychological reasons, and probably both. https://sleepfoundation.org/insomnia...auses-insomnia

The triad for myself . . . me, my pillow, and my old man, are all it takes for me to fall asleep 10 minutes after pulling up the sheets. Suphots timing is even better, in LaLa land in 2 minutes. Every time. (Though he does wake up when tapped gently on the shoulder. )
Frankly I couldnt survive without my 8 hours. I do feel for Joe regarding this.

    Re: Insomnia

8 hours, that's the right amount for me as well. As I wake up around 8 regardless of time I go to bed, I need to get to bed midnight or earlier to get my 8 hours sleep.

Not the op's question, but shouldn't you rather get your insomnia treated than looking for activities during your insomnia?

    Re: Insomnia

Thanks for the link, Smiles. Yes christian, I should get it treated, and I intend to talk to my doctor about it at my next appointment. I guess it's the can of Leo and the balcony, then. Actually it can be quite fun watching the comings and goings on the street early in the morning.

    Re: Insomnia

Hi Joe, I don't suffer from insomnia as such, but I am generally up all night and sleep during the day, so often looking for late-night bars while on holiday. On a previous Pattaya trip (last November), X-Boys was staying open as a karaoke bar after the shows finished (reduced drink prices too), and I was often there until around 6am. It would also get quite busy with boys (and some girls) arriving after their bars closed, but all singing was in Thai which may not be your thing (not mine either, but by that time of the morning I was more focused on the beer / whisky than the singing lol). I didn't go there that late on my latest trip (last month), but when I was there earlier in the night they did confirm they were still doing karaoke after the shows, but not sure if they're still staying open as late as they were.

On that previous trip there were also a couple of small (straight) bars on one of the 13/?? Soi's (can't remember which one exactly), between Second Road and Beach Road, that we went to a few times. These were open late / well after the gay bars / gogos closed...but again didn't check these out on my latest trip, so can't confirm if they still open that late (or are even still there).

On my latest trip I was at Forest House Bar in Sunee until they closed at 4am, that was on a Sunday night / Monday morning. The boy I was drinking with (who worked there) said they will generally stay open til 4, if they have the customers, but can't confirm that myself. When that closed he said there were still other bars open we could go to drink, but from his description it sounded more like a straight-nightclub, which I wasn't really in the mood for, so didn't check it out.

So...there is hope for a late-night / early morning drink lol.

Breakfast I can't help with, as once I start drinking I don't feel like eating...

    Re: Insomnia

Thanks for that Aux1010. One question about Xboys - do you have to be in there before a certain time or could I wander in at 3.00am? I don't mind Thai karaoke too much if I'm having a drink! It seems I'm the only one who eats breakfast early in the morning. Oh well, Ambience it is, at 7.30.
