You probably know what you're talking about but I find this hard to believe.
Most Authoritarian states are alien to what democratic states stand for.

FRM - all you need to do is go to Google, enter "age of consent in...".

    fourteen years

In China the age of consent for sexual activity is 14 years, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Chinese law defines statutory rape as having sex with a girl who is less than fourteen years of age. A five-year prison sentence and fine may result if the girl under 14 years of age was acting as a prostitute.Ages of consent in Asia - Wikipediahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Asia

This means that Chinese woman can legally have a half reared child by the time she is 21 years old under the "1 Child only" policy and possibly 2 half reared children post "1 child only" law.
It's no wonder that China has a population of 1.2 billion.

Dreams... dreams... While age of consent is 14 in China, there is law with punishment for adults for sex with person who is below 18 yo. Age of consent means only what 15 yo person may have sex with person who is above 14. When adult will try to convince 14 yo into sex - he will be still in trouble in case police will found it.

    Re: Shanghai

I think the "age appropriate" point is very important.
    Somebody has already mentioned it.
Young people must be given space within their peer group. The intrusion of adults should be outlawed and punished.
The 'statutory rape' laws enacted in Britain under pressure from feminists makes for a dangerous time for young males in their 16th year of age-I think.
There was a famous case a few years ago when a barely 16 yr old male broke it off with his 15 year old girlfriend in favour of another.
Jealousy took over of course and one night there was a knock on his door and he was taken from his home by police.
All the mutual teenage petting etc that went on during the previous 3 months now became 'Rape' because of this Statute.
And so the nightmare for him and his family began.
The 'victim' was given free legal aid and counselling.
His parents had to finance the defence against the State alone.
I forget how it turned out.
