    Wroclaw Poland

Just a quick report "for the record" on the off chance that anyone ever intends to go and carries out a quick search here.

So, I'm just back after a surprisingly enjoyable trip to Wroclaw in Poland. Was pleasantly surprised by the place which was clean and modern, as well as cheap and plently to do for a weekend. Had an enjoyable few days doing the usual shopping stuff around the malls etc and church / museum site seeing things, also had a very enjoyable night at the Opera ( and for only £8 a ticket too I should add !!).

Lots of nice ( straight) bars to drink in and there also seemed to be several (girly) go go ( I think they just meant lap dancing) bars, but I didn't go in to test the "off" theory there but I'm guessing many things may have been possible if that's your thing too.

Re the gay side of things Grindr was busy with plenty of fairly butch straight acting types of all ages if you fancied that. I also visited the ( only?) three gay bars / clubs / venues that I could find online - purely for research purposes - one being a full on sleaze "club" called Catcus Club which was basically a bar with small dance floor with a large dark room(a) area to one side of it, complete with several porn TVs dotted about the place and plenty of rooms and suitably kitted out areas for whatever might take your fancy. A condom and lube are issued on arrival after paying your very reasonable £2 entrance fee.

So left there after a while and headed on to an "actual" gay club i.e. a dance cub named HAH club which on Friday was only half full but on Saturday was full and pumping with lots of cute guys, great music and loads of energy and it was 5am before I left there after dancing so much I needed a (very good and totally authentic ) Thai massage and a Balinese foot reflexology session the next day to recover ( and both for only £20 and £10 respectively too !!!)

There's also a gay coffee shop in the main square called Coffee Planet which was nice during the day and had a bar / club area out the back too at night, but as there was a lesbian function on when I was there and I was banned from the dance room ( bloody discriminating lessers !! :-) so can't comment on that, other than to say the music was great there too.

So all in all whilst Wroclaw certainly wasnt Berlin or Barcelona etc, l'd a really fun weekend there which didn't cost me the earth for a nice change and I would definitely go back someday maybe if the mood every takes me if nothing else to do and was looking for a sensibly priced weekend with a bit of "fun" thrown in too perhaps.

    Re: Wroclaw Poland

Can I also put in a few words about Krakow - another fascinating Polish city with one of Europe's oldest universities, the Jagiellonian founded in 1364. I spent a weekend there a few years ago. Loads to see and do with great views from the castle. On our first full day there was some sort of parade that seemed as though Mel Brooks was directing part of his movie "The Producers"! The Jewish quarter is particularly poignant as the ghetto was one of the largest in Poland during the Nazi era. Notable, too, is the simple monument to the Katyn massacre of more than 20,0000 captured Polish officers and recruits by the Soviets in the early stages of the war. The mass graves were discovered in 1943. Only after the fall of the Soviet Union was it finally realised that the executions had been ordered by the Politburo and not by the Nazis.

We did not go to any gay clubs or bars but I see from travelgayeurope that there are 14 listed. Even so we had a great weekend in a fascinating city.

Nice trip report. Did you have a chance to check out Auschwitz at all? That's quite a humbling place, to say the least.

No didn't bother on this trip. Did look into it but Wrolcaw isn't the closest location to head there from ( Krakow would be the place to go there from I believe), the tour I did look at taking from there was 80 euro each ( it's only 10 euro into the camp I think) and entailed a 10 hour dat trip so too long a day, plus I was dosed with the cold and not feeling up to feeling ( any more) down. But I may well return to Krakow to do the tours ( there are 3 different places to go and not just one camp i.e the salt mines etc) so, no, not this trip but maybe in the future,

Had we had more time, we would have gone to Auschwitz. We preferred to spend more time in the Jewish quarter. It was very moving..
