American shot dead by Canadian girlfriend in Thailand

CHIANG MAI, Thailand (AFP) - An American businessman has been shot dead by his Canadian girlfriend at a restaurant in Thailand's northern tourist spot, Chiang Mai, police said.

George Dubie, 56, was gunned down late Sunday by Margaret Jean Crane, 41, who was later arrested in the northern province, police said.

Police declined to give details of the circumstances of the murder, but said Dubie was once a freelance journalist for CNN.

The CNN Bureau in Bangkok said it had no knowledge of him.

Crane told police she had worked for Dubie as a secretary and said the American had many girlfriends.
