The post Songkran doldrums seem to be worse than usual this year with very few people around. Even normally busy local Thai places are quiet, and the farang bar scene has been slow. May is traditionally slow, and it's still very hot; hopefully things will improve! The situation has not been helped by a clampdown on opening hours in the last couple of weeks, though this seems to be relaxing a little bit now.
A quick summary: Ram Bar has closed, due to their lease expiring. The boys have a new, currently Secret, location and are promising a brand new venue within a couple of months. Amazingly, G-Star Vintage has also closed, they also seem to have suffered with issues over late night opening during the last year. However, a new Thai Style Coyote venue "Grand Area" has opened on Huay Kaew Road near to Soho Bar. Looks like it could be fun! The Students are back in town so hopefully See Man Pub will also pick up too.
Several massage places appear to have closed. We updated our listings of boy massage places offering the proverbial rub and tug: Guide to Massage for men By Men in Chiang Mai. We have verified that all the places listed are still open.
Go-Go bars carry on as before, though Free Guy has changed its format to include Karaoke. Still plenty of handsome Tai Yai guys around so now is not a bad time to visit Chiang Mai!
