The last person living to have known Oscar Wilde's lover Lord Alfred Douglas and one of only two people to attend his funeral, the actor Sir Donald Sinden has died aged 90.

With his dapper appearance and fruity upper-class plummy voice, the late Donald Sinden was instantly recognizable. A regular in the UK Rank Organisation films of the 1950s, appearing with actors like Jack Hawkins, Ava Gardner, Clark Gable and Dirk Bogarde he then mostly shunned movies to remain a pillar of the London stage and British television.

His stage roles included Lear, Othello and Malvolio in Twelfth Night where he played opposite Judi Dench. On television he is perhaps best remembered for the series тАЬTwoтАЩs CompanyтАЭ where he played the butler alongside the late, great Elaine Stritch. It ran for 6 years. Sinden himself boasted that he had "only had a total of five weeks unemployment between 1942 and 2008.тАЭ
