    Taiwan

I have a growing fascination for Taiwanese boys.

On three occasions, in Bali, I have had the fortune to stand beside three of them at the urinal [twice at the airport with large group of students departing, and again last night at a leading restaurant]...all were late teens, smartly dressed though super casual, none minded being ogled, and all were hung like horses [could not speak to them as I was breathless and trembling with hot flushes]. Was I just three times lucky are all the Taiwanese boys open, friendly and oversize!

What is the scene like there? I did read a gay novel set in Taiwan and it appeared that all was rather undercover, meeting in a central park then going to a nondescript bar? Sounds a bit like the wonderful Singapore of the 70's, totally illegal but the boys all too horny to say no.

Breathless, trembling, and hot flushes - because you spied on some teenagers having a piss?

    Seriously?

I hope you never watch any porn dear - I fear you'd die on the spot (highly theatrically of course)

    Re: Taiwan

There is some useful info on the 'Gay Taipei' thread further down the page - gay-taipei-t29826.html

I have always enjoyed and had a good time on many trips to Taipei. The gay scene has become much more extensive in the last decade or so and Taiwan guys are far less closeted than before. There is even an outdoor gay area around the Red House in the Ximen district that is all gay bars, cafes and boutiques - rather like Taipei's version of Silom Soi 4 although less busy during week-days (get to Ximen subway station and then take Exit 1 - it is well signposted). Several gay saunas are close by. That park you mention is almost certainly the one featured in the 1980s novel/movie "Crystal Boys", the New Park, a couple of blocks behind what was then the Hilton Hotel - now the Caesar Park. There was extensive cruising there in the 1980s and 90s partly because there were at that time few other places for gay guys to meet. No idea if it remains cruisy now.

Almost all Taiwan guys are friendly, but not all open and definitely not all oversize! When gay bars and saunas became established, most Taiwan guys would go with one or more friends and so hook-ups were a lot less easy than in, say, Bangkok. To a certain extent, going out in a group is still true today. As some have said, this is partly also a language issue - although again this is less than before. I reckon it is more because there are far less Taiwanese actually interested in meeting up with foreigners, and that's a cultural issue - definitely not a racist one. That said, though, there are still plenty who are perfectly happy to spend time with guys from other countries. Find someone to meet up with as soon as you arrive and get him to show you around. If you are making a first visit, you will see some guys on gay romeo - but only two or three pages at any one time. Other social networking sites will probably generate more interest.

Most Taiwanese gay guys are generally very polite and somewhat reserved. So take a bit of time getting to know someone. One thing is for sure. Just wander anywhere around Taipei and the eye-candy is stunning!
