04/01/12 We have decided to post another flood report today. This is because the papers are once again full of news of flooding in Thailand. It IS bad, BUT itтАЩs in the South this time. Note that it is especially in Muang municipality of Nakhon Si Thammarat. IT IS NOT BANGKOK AND NOT THE MAJOR TOURIST AREAS. If youтАЩre planning to fly into Bangkok and visit Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya or the islands, these are not affected. Check out http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/loca...-rail-services

This colourful and noisy celebration of the New Year will be held from the 1st to the 7th January 2012 in Phuket TownтАЩs Saphan Hin Park. The celebrations consist of a number of events centring on a fair and carnival, with local delicacies and a wide range of arts crafts for sale. The fair usually kicks off somewhere between 3.30pm and 4.00pm, depending on how quickly the town starts to cool down. In addition to the late afternoon and evening events of parades and shows in the streets there are live music activities and dance shows until well into the night. A lottery is one of the main events and in the 2011 Fair one lucky winner scooped the first prize of a brand new house in Phuket worth over 3 million Baht. The Red Cross Fair, in common with most events of its kind across south east Asia, is an unusual combination of open-air market and Chinese-style temple fair and is staged, not only as an event popular with locals and tourists, but more seriously to raise money for the Thai Red Cross in Phuket. Entry is free and as well as carnival games and food stalls there will be an exhibition area where visitors can learn more about the Thai Red Cross.
