The difference in the "gay scene" between Pattaya and Bangkok is huge.
But it depends on what you're looking for. If you're a retired sexpat
just looking to get laid as often as possible in your two week vacation
minus travel time, then it doesn't much matter. If you're under 50 and
in good shape, or if you're spending more than a couple of weeks here
and maybe looking for a longer term relationship, then my opinion is
you will enjoy Bangkok much more.
I'm still young enough and decent looking enough that I don't have to
pay to get laid. I moved to Pattaya over a year ago for my job.
Before that I was living in Bangkok briefly and have visited both for 5
or 6 years previously. From my experience, there's a big difference in
the boys in PTY and BKK. 95+ percent of the boys in PTY are moneyboys.
Not so in BKK. I'd guess 80%+ of the barboys in PTY are straight
(except the really femmy types at some of the bars, the ladyboys-in-
training, but I don't consider them "boys.)
In contrast, there are neighborhoods in BKK where the gay scene and
night life are not geared to older western tourists but are popular among
local Thais. Some of these guys are open to a relationship or dating
westerners, but wouldn't be caught dead going to Soi 4 or the tourist
gay areas except maybe as a once-off just for fun.
So, ask yourself, and maybe tell the guys here what are you looking for...
How long will you be in Thailand?
Have you visited before?
What's your age range and fitness/attractiveness?
What's your idea of a good time, dance clubs, bars, saunas, karaoke, gogo clubs?
What's your budget?
Do you like straight acting gay-for-pay types or not? Or don't care.
Bangkok and Pattaya are only a couple hours apart, and about $4 USD on
the bus. You could spend a few days in each city even on a short vacation.
Any better advice than that will require maybe more info than you've given.

Neither myself nor my BF are into guys that are and way fem acting... but I there is no way that there are 80% guys that are 100% straight and working in the pattaya gay bars...

Pattaya is the gayest cities in the world, even afer removing the ladyboys, katooey boys and fem boys from the mix...there is still probably 4-5,000 Gay boys/men in Pattaya.

Bangkok every time.
In Bangkok you have something to do 24 hours a day:
Babylon Sauna and many other more Thai4Thai saunas.
Silom Soi 4 for Pubs & Restaurants
Silom Soi 2 for Discos & Bars
Soi Twilight for GoGo Bars
Silom has at least a dozen gay massage shops in the area.
Silom Soi 2/1 for late night disco
and if none of that appeals then, at the moment Gay Romeo is showing 1114 guys on line and Pattaya showing 380 on line.
Plus while you are recuperating from your excess of gay life there are world famous temples and tourist attractions plus shopping centres, cinemas, restaurants and so on.
Pattaya is stale and boring. Yes there is the beach but will you dare to go in the heavily polluted sea? Read up about the crime in Pattaya often targeting tourists.
However, I'm not suggesting that you don't go to Pattaya but make it a side trip for a maximum of three nights.
Last year was my first time in PTY and actually I enjoyed that there is not much to do. Just hanging out at the beach, enjoy the great Thai street food and have fun in the gay nightlife. My impression was that gay life is more relaxing and more familiar atmosphere than in BKK. PTY Boys are lovely. This year I booked more nights in PTY than BKK.
I enjoy both but prefer long time in BKK and short time in PTY.
BKK- larger variety of bars, clubs, massage with many uni students moonlighting. Greater variety of things to do if you get bored of the go-gos. Larger Thai population to people-watch. Greater variety of good restaurants. Variety of different areas all easily accessible by BTS/taxi etc.
PTY - ok for sitting on the beach, compact area of go-go bars, many Issan guys, cheaper.

I also enjoy both. Currently I like Pattaya for longer stays mainly because of GayRomeo.. Any time day or night you can find a boy who can be with you in 15 minutes. BKK frequently the boy can be 1 hour away and harder to set up meetings.
But BKK has many more Non Money Boys. Choices Choices??
