On the board and in the bar.

There's a post on GB started by Undaunted. GB mentions that while they don't get along in gayboardland they get on well in the real world.
This got me thinking, what are anyone else's experiences? Only one time have I actually met someone I had argued with and that was on another board. We neither liked nor dislike each other but that was nothing to do with what we had written.

So: Have any of the alley cats here met and found the guy you spit blood at on SGT turns out to be rather pleasant company? Or dare I ask, the other way round.

FWB = Friends With Benefits ; Internet Slang. You can Google if not aware of connotation.

..actually over the years a few board members being aware of my tastes have given me very helpful hints....even some that I've had fairly strong differences of opinion...

    Thanks Latin.

I do remember having a conversation with Michael (Corner Bar) in which we were imagining two people chatting nicely to each other quite happily in a bar while simultaneously hurling insults on a message board. Come back Michael.

I hope mine and G.B.s responses were helpful. I too miss Micheal, and his food.

mfas: Very much so actually and while it's none of my business I was pleased to read it. Twice a year tourists such as I am perhaps don't always realise that the gay ex-pat community (a word I hate but can think of no other) is quite small and enclosed so surely better to get along.

    Isn't that nice. :happy7:

I don't socialise with these types of farangs in Thailand at all and in fact, almost never visit these parts of Pattaya like Sunee or Boyztown either so I don't have to get along with anyone here. :sign5:

Seriously though, it mystifies me why people members like Neal and GB choose to make so many enemies in territory that actually matters to them... shitting on your own doorstep and all.

So which types of farangs do you socialise with?

Re: On the board and in the bar.

In Thailand? Almost none at all... unless they happen to be friends and hanging out with my Thai friends or they are farang friends from back home who have come over for a holiday, usually of similar age to me.

I spend time with my partner, his family, his friends and a few good friends I've made in Thailand over the years. Some are former flings, but my partner is ok with that and is even friends with some of them now. Also, some Thai friends from my home city (i.e. Thai expats) going back to Thailand for a visit.

I've chatted to and befriended a pretty wide cross section of Thais over the years, from gogo boys to your ordinary middle class guys to one guy from one of the country's wealthiest families. That's why my perspective of Thais and Thai guys has evolved and gotten further and further away from the inaccurate and often offensive view portrayed on these boards. Particularly that by a certain board owner (not this one). I guess that's led to some friction.

But I guess the friendships that have endured tend to be with the Thais who are more compatible, in terms of socio-economic status, likes, interests, habits and thinking. Thinking about what they do... they range from IT workers and engineers to small business owners to guys who work in professional services and other areas for multinationals, to doctors and guys involved in running their family business.

I have similar circles of friends in a couple of other countries but the one in Thailand is probably the strongest outside my own home city... South East Asia is just a wonderful melting pot of nationalities. I love having friends in various cities around the region to catch up with.

I'm a big believer in having a diversity of ideas, experience and influence in your life... I guess that's one way I justify posting here. Most are people I would never interact or want to interact with in with in real life. I mean, where else do I get to delve into the mind of a brothel owner (Neal) or someone who's decided to settle down with a prostitute (Matt)? :sign5:

It's like my own private underbelly show (TV series in Australia).
