the best plan for my cell phone while living here the next few years?

it up for $b300. Just txting ovrnight I used up half my credit.

Hi Donald and welcome as a resident. I have used both True and Dtac as providers. Dtac appears to have the best signal and the service is much better than True if you have any problem. I think you are in Bangkok? You could go to Siam Paragon, where both DTAC and AIS have owned outlets, and ask about their various plans.

AIS definately has the "biggest" coverage across the whole country if thats important to you
I usually use *500# to get a Data, voice and SMS promotion on my accoount
300B is usually enough to get 1 week data (80B), 200 Local SMS (120B over 1 month), 60 Mins calls (60B over 1 month) and still have enough for 4-5 international SMS's
Remember the international SMSs are the most expensive thing... sometimes its cheaper to call (or use skype, Line etc) than send an SMS

Donald. With a smart phone, you should be exploring a different way of sending international text messages.
Depending on where your family and friends back home are located, you may want to look into a skype subscription. Unlimited voice calls over skype to their home land lines or mobile phones as well as cheap SMS to their mobile phones. Different plans on their site to choose from, but possibly can save you some money if you are going to be in contact frequently.
Also may want to look into Google Voice. Again, not sure where you were living before, but with Google voice I have a US phone number that people can call and it gets sent to my smart phone over the internet. If you are not on-line, they can leave voicemail. Good way for them to be able to reach you without having to pay for international phone calls.
Take a bit of time and look over some options. There are a lot of things available now.
I use whatsapp, free for the 1st year them тВм1 (yes one euro) per year thereafter. able to send sms and pics for free.

I have the same phone and a postpaid subscription with DTAC . I only pay 399 baht per month for unlimited internet package . 3G speed up to 1 GB andif you use more the speed will be reduced to 64kb but still acceptable for surfing and reading emails. And using apps like Grindr you dont need a fast line.

As you can see you can choose between 6 smartphone packages, but no need to pay more than 399 unless you want to watch a lot of videos online.
