A friend took the bus to Siam Reap for Morchit Bus terminal in Bangkok. Less than stellar service, flying there is less taxing on the body.

The Siem Reap line departs Bangkok at 9am and the return service leaves the Cambodian town at 8am. Siem Reap is the home of two major tourist attractions, Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom.

The fare is 750 baht, or US$25, for the 424km trip,

The Bangkok Air flights one way are

    web delight 6600

    web flexi 7600

    web freedom 8845

    surely everything is relative?

    Hi,
The through service started Thusday 21st having done a few trial runs last December, one bus to Phnom Penh, one to Siem Reap. The thing to remember about the service is that you need to have an E-visa for Cambodia before you board. At the border passports and evisas and collected along with a 100B service fee - it's a bribe. The guy then goes off to get the pax stamped into Cambodia and you stay on the bus in the air-con. When you're cleared to carry on you actually change buses and carry on to your Cambodian destination. If you didn't get the evisa you get dropped off at the border and if you can't get your VOA processed in time you have to make your own way onward. The border takes around 2 hours on this service. So it seems to work quite well and you don't have to face the border and scams, but it's not quick. Siem Reap service arrived around 17.30 last week from a 9am start in Mo Chit but it saves a lot of dosh. It's approx $50 to Siem Reap including the visa whereas the cheaper Cambodia Angkor Air flight is around 7000B one way and Bangkok Airways around 8000+ so the savings are substantial.
    Cheers

While I hate being on a bus that long, I love to see the countryside and the bus is a good chance to take in a lot of rural Combodia. That would interest me more then the money savings.

Well as I have done the trip there is not much "countryside to see and the other i that I love hanging around the boarder crossing "Poipet" and watching all those half naked boys doing physical work and thier innocent gazes. Bring a ladyboy with you and you get all the interesting stares from them. Like fishing! I like to stay at one of the casino hotels there and go around to the discos there and play naughty boy games.

I assume there is a reduced cost for travelling as a party compared to travelling by yourself, with a partner or a partner travelling by themselves.

Your costs probably do not match up with others IMHO.
