Thanks for the photos. One quick question. Did you see any recent damage at Preah Vihear from the recent hostilities?
I thought it was a much bigger site then this. Hardly looks worth all the trouble.

I made a day trip to Preah Vihar some years ago and it was definitely worth it. Interesting site and spectacular views.

Yes, you can se results of attacks from Thailand hitting the temple. Ask the soldiers up there and they will gladly show you.
And yes, it is "only" a hilltop about 625m up from the Cambodian side. Since the conflict started 2 years ago the temple can only be reached from Cambodia.

It is worth going there. The trip up/down the new road is an experience in itself. Because the road is very step you can only acces by MC (5$) or 4x4 pickup (25 $). If you dare, take your seat at the back. The view is stunning.

Thailand and Cambodia have asked ICJ in Haag to explain the ruling from 1962 about the area, which is not clear concerning the hill top (the area) but gives Cambodia the ownership of the temple. The verdict is expected in October 2013. Some politicians in Thailand have allready made it clear that they will not accept the verdict if it goes against their interest. Maybe the conflict will escalade again.
