    Christmas Songs Everywhere?

It seems wherever I go I hear Christmas songs. What is this? This is Thailand more over Asia. Has the commercial industry gone and gotten their claws into Asia now also?
OK, I was in Bangkok - Pattaya Hospital as usual at 6 am and trying to get a little sleep during the 4 1/2 hour dialysis process. First I pass this fake Christmas tree in the dialysis center and then while I am sleeping I get woken up by Christmas tunes on the PA!

Today I went shopping in Foodland and what do I hear? You got it! Santa Clause is Coming to Town followed by all the rest of his tunes. Now I am not a prude and I do enjoy things of Christmas and will go out for a nce dinner with the boys, but come on. The dialysis boy now asks me what I buy him for Christmas and it seems that wherever I am going the implication is the same as the West. What you get me for Christmas? Just another excuse to get falang to shell out the money.

    Re: Christmas Songs Everywhere?

When I was in Thailand over this past summer, several times I noticed a Christmas song playing on the "Next Step" music video channel. Was just random...a Christmas song popping up in the midst of the regular tunes....

At least they have got the time of year correct now :sign5:

I was on the way to the beach and listening to 96 which I usually do. They "sing" every week the travel road advisory which is stupid because it is the same every week. Take the small sois etc. Anyway what does she do this week? That's right! She sings the travel advisory in Pattaya to the background music of a Christmas song! I guess it is partly ok because it is a falang station but the thing I can't seem to grasp is that it is also the same every week.

Yes Brisbane but this is Asia and most if not all are Muslim and Buddhist with Christmas being Christian. Yes I know some are Christian also but nowhere into the majority. They just want you to shop til you drop!

I don't care about Christmas songs, I learned to live with them, it's only two months per year and then it's over; but there are a few bars in Sunee which are German owned and play German songs. For some seconds I am not sure whether to trust my ears or my eyes until I realize that they are playing German songs in Thailand!

But isn't this about 7 weeks too long?

Frankly, I hope my time in Thailand gives me a chance to get away from all this commercialised shit.
..........and that's the way it is.

And what's worse is that tatty decorations remain on show long after the "Twelve days" of Christmas. I've seen Christmas trees at the Royal Garden in February.
