    Cost of a Passport

A gogo boy I met in Pattaya wants to go to Shanghai for a holiday with me. (Well, not sure about the wanting to go "with me" bit) I told him to organise a passport and I'd see what I could do. And that i would pay for it when I return to Pattaya.

Does anyone know how much a Thai national pays for a passport??

1000 baht. If he's under 20, you need both parents to show up at the immigration office to sign for it. 20+, he can do it on his own. Thailand doesn't want their conscripts running away!

then it has gone up-was even cheaper,. and DO check what he also has to bring-at least his chip-ID. The foto's are made by them on the spot.
Note that China also wants visa from Thai-but they cost a little less as for farang-the USAers pay the high price=equiv of 140US$=same as they charge Chinese, even if refused.
Also note: CN has now imposed-very recently- much more stringent rules for visa: have to show flight bookings and hotel bookings. This is very fresh-but of course there are already Th agents who know how to get around that.

Remember if he has never been out of the country and thuis it is what is referred to as a "clean passport" the likeliehood of him being stopped at immigration at the first posrt of entry is almost 150% certain. Make sure you explain that you are with him and GO with him. Be prepared to show hotels you will be staying at and departure tickets for both dated the same day. Once they see that he is being escorted ll should be ok. Alone and he will almost certainly get grilled to death and maybe rejected as they are afraid he won't go back to Thailand. This was what happened to me when I brought my 2 boys to see Hong Kong, China, Macau. Just escort him through immigration.

Thanks for the replies. He emailed me last week to say he had just received his new passport.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should bother taking him out of the country! And I forgot about the military service bit.
