    Gay books and authors

Whilst nowadays as im getting older I have of late preferred reading e books on my computer however I have an interest in "gay thailand" books.
It seems books are now becoming "old fashioned" and e books are taking over.

Dare I ask has anyone been to the Canterbury Tales bookshop in the soi bookcow area?
I am interested in gay thai books written specifically about/in Thailand, including history such as the brilliant book written by M.Burchall as well as autobiograhies etc.
I have heard they (Canterbury Tales) have an extensive gay section ?
There is a hard to get book I am after by author Alan Murrell? with short stories of his experiences with barboys, possibly written over 10 years ago.
It has a brown cover with drawings on the front with illustrations.

Another gay book that may be of interest to some ,though may be hard to find, is written by former go go bar owner Michael Burchall and the history of Boyztown, one of the best informative books on Gay Pattaya.
I had browsed Thais4Life however their books are very limited on gay books written in or about Thailand specifically.

I have been told there were also many self published books written about Thailand by gay farang but as yet I have not noticed these anywhere.

    No,LOL.
I am waiting for a book to be written by Kevin Quill which would make a very interesting read.
I thought at one stage there was a book in the pipeline?
Im sure it would be a very good seller.
Im surprised Kevin hasn't gone ahead with this.

I'm still waiting for a copy of the porn film a certain person is alleged to have "starred" in.

You'd think there would be ONE copy somewhere

    HI Guys
Actually we dont really have an extensive collection re gay books as I find them fairly hard to get and unfortunately not so many gay guys stay in this area and of course not all readers.
We do have a few and welcome any unwanted books as we either buy them or trade them so if you have any unwanted books of any genre please drop by.
    All the best Dave

When the Bookazine chain was owned by a gay Canadian it was a very gay-friendly place; now Asia Books have taken it over they have purged it completely of anything non-heterosexual. Not that the Thais are anti-gay of course ...

there are very few books on life of gay Thais that I know of or have seen. I think they all date from a century ago. The best ones are 2 (yes, I + II) named ''as the dove coos''=translations from letters Thai submtted to the then gay mag named MIDWAY.
From same editor was the series that gave overviews of Thai gay venues before this www came on, (if I remember well) from a mr. Eryc Allyn (sorry-do not have it here at hand-maybe slightly different), ''The Men of Thailand'', in at least 6 or 7 editions. The main text was quite informative (even up till today) but not changed very much and there was an updated supplement with the venues+maps.
When I looked in the library here and catalogue, what mostly turned up were all kinds of descriptions of encounters with katoey/ladyboys-not generally my first choice.

Allyn has published several books on different facets of gay life in Thailand, but I believe all are out of print and only available used. TMOT has been out of print for quite some time, but you can sometimes find used copies on Amazon. Currently there's one copy of the 6th edition going for $28.50 and a 7th edition for $58 - kind of steep for nightlife information now 12 years old, but there's a LOT more to the books than just that, and that's what made them interesting.
