Just got an alert from CNN that the iconic diva Elizabeth Taylor has dies of congestive heart failure. This may not be related to Thailand but she was an idol to many people around the world...Especially the gays. Now she's with her gal pal Michael J.

Who amongst us can forget her majestic performance as Pearl Slaghoople in The Flintstones (1994)
In that film she received her highest salary ever for a movie role ... $2.5 million.

Taylor was a decent actress. As a gay man I felt nor feel any special affection for her. I am in my 50s and saw her movies. Like any public figure she had her fans but I never understood why gay men were supposed to feel a special affinity for the woman.

The same for Lady Diana..I was almost embarrassed to be a gay man when she died..the queens in san francisco set up a memorial for her on the corner of 18th and castro in the heart of the gay district. The wailing and caterwalling at the scene sounded like cats being tourtured.

Let's hope Mizz Taylor gets a more muted send off.

Whether she was a gay icon or not she did do a lot to focus attention on AIDS victims when there were precious few who were. Perhaps we can spare her a few kind thoughts for that.

I think that is fair comment.

She didn't have much sympathy for Burton though,she was banned from the funeral as his last wife didn't want it turned into a meda circus,not by Liz herself,just the enormous publicity that followed her around.

She was slightly before my time and I didn't really get all the hype with her or Richard Burton to be honest. The lady suffered ill health for the last few years.
