This is why the Thai economy is propped up so high. There is so much money from foreigners going into that place. Pattaya alone must take in billions of dollars and they can't even get the infrastructure right. May be it is high time a few other countries did the same! Then the bht currency might even drop.
Isn't that interesting, The current Labor Government in Australia gave out Millions upon millions of dollars in it's first year of government and is now desperately trying to put some money back in the coffers.
This does not only apply to DSP recipients overseas, it is a general purge through Centrelink, the most inefficient government establishment ever run!
Although I agree in principal with cutting pensions of overseas persons who may or may not be working I believe more attention and less money should be spent on single mothers, the long term unemployed and free/subsidised housing. Add to that the current governments handouts to asylum seekers (almost triple an Aussie pensioners fornightly payments, and they have paid tax in this country for at least 40/50 years.
For example: single mother of 5 children (Dad, well one of them, visits now and again) gets AUD1500 +++ per fortnight, is given a brand new 4 bedroom home in a new residential estate amongst quality privately owned homes (which are rapidly put on the market) she pays no medical, no school fees, no dental, drives a large 4wheel drive and can obtain funds in advance from Centrelink if she so desires. WHY the fuck would she work????????????
Personally, the guys in Pattaya with the DSP's can have them, a drop in the ocean of mis-spent taxpayers money. As for Jenny Macklin, ha, don't start me!
The reverse Robin Hood tactics of the Labor (YES the LABOR, working mans party) is hell bent on making up their deficit from those who can least afford to pay, they won't touch the 'big guys' for fear of election loss and reduced donations.

I've heard this from a few people now, and read it from many others on forums. I have to wonder though, if people are worried about the baht increasing a couple notches so much, what are they going to do if & when they move back to their home countries? If they have to cut back on their lifestyle due to the baht rising a couple points, then they're probably in real trouble, especially if they run into medical problems, or are forced to go back home for some reason.

I think someone placed an article on here re: about affordability of westerners living in Thailand, in that, the majority never really can afford to live in Thailand and they do not take into account long term factors, the above being added to those factors. And yes, if the baht moves and has a undesired effect on one's finances, then, well, need I go on.
