I remember asking my brother [who has worked lived in Bangkok for years] how the riots were affecting him during the push to oust Thaksin [as reported daily in the wrold's press]...his reply was 'what riots'. The fact of the matter was unless you hung around the area of parliament you never saw much different to any other days except many yellow shirts riding on the BTS. LIfe goes on as normal every day in Bangkok no matter what that days political agenda is! It has been that way for years.Originally Posted by a447
Back in the 70's during one of Bangkok's many midnight curfews during a coup, I got carried away chatting to the young guys at Lonely Boy [bottom of Soi 4 now the Salsa Bar I think]. Sticking my head out the door into the lane soon attracted a police/army jeep who, after an initial angry confrontation all of 5 seconds, drove me to the Dusit Thani, then actually made it obvious they would not mind being invited in for a drink...sorry, too old!
Bangkok is Bangkok, and will unlikely ever change!
