Don't be a sex tourist - stay at home and meditate
Salinee Chumsuwan, director of the Office of Culture Monitoring at the Thai culture ministry, recently gave an interview to local media saying sex toys should not be legalized as there is no solid research supporting them. She said research from other countries cannot be used because (you’ll never guess) the context is different. That’s right. Thais are unique. Thai chauvinism is alive and well. She recommended that people who have urges should instead resort to meditation or sport. This was in the same week that the Thai language press reported on the arrest of a 16yo Thai schoolboy who was pimping his schoolboy mates out to Thai men
The full report is on Khaosod English – always a good source of information on Thai life – in a discussion about prostitution in Thailand. Many Forum members will doubtless argue (they’re as much in denial as the Thais) that prostitution doesn’t mean the same thing in Thailand as in the West. It must be so – they’re not the sort of people who engage with prostitutes, therefore the boys they pay can’t possibly be prostitutes
Re: Don't be a sex tourist - stay at home and meditate
For most of us meditating means looking at our holiday 'snaps' and wishing we were actively engaged in sex tourism.
Re: Don't be a sex tourist - stay at home and meditate
The Thai way is to NOT see what is in front of them, everyone in the soi knows full well what the rich (comparatively speaking) farang is up to "inviting" supple Thai companions back to his place, they all know exactly what the Thai companion is...but they all pretend not to see.
This works as long as everyone follows the unwritten rules which is dont do as some silly farangs do and mince down the soi groping said Thai companion.
Poverty makes the impossible possible....young guys from provincial towns and the contryside soon find out that the streets of BKK and Pattaya are not paved with gold and that decent jobs are scarce...but as long as he can pretend that he works in a bar or is a waiter we all save face and earn a living.
As for the schoolboy pimping out his mates...wow..take my hat off to him..gonna end up rich by the times he's 30 with that sort of entrepreneurial mindset.

What if it was a bar pimping out schoolboys - would you take your hat off to that too?
Do you even wear a hat?

Some posts in this thread have been moved to the Holding Room and can be found in a new thread called "Relationships."
Re: Don't be a sex tourist - stay at home and meditate
thus sparing the embarrassment of the ex-mod who was getting ripped a new one by Nirish
Re: Don't be a sex tourist - stay at home and meditate
You should probably move old Scottish Guy's post as well otherwise the whole thing will start again. If course if you do you run the risk of one.of.his monthly screaming fits. He's all man isn't he, our Scottish National Party representative. I especially like it when he and NIrish plaintively call for assistance in their attacks. Because two of them isn't enough, right? What a pair.
