Being stuck to one guy would actually work to your disadvantage; it might send out the signal that you're not available and present all sorts of jealousy-related problems if you do find someone that you like (other than the guide).
This whole buying dinner, paying for taxi, picking up the tab business may be the S.O.P. for the typical farang-moneyboy liaison but may not be the case with everybody. Never assume that your new friend has no money or of inferior socio-economic status to you. Bangkok is full of young, friendly, attractive gay guys from across the socio-economic spectrum, many of whom can pay their own way. There are plenty of gorgeous professional Thai guys in their mid twenties to early thirties who will take you out and entertain you if you fit the bill of what they're looking for.

There are tons of fairly wealthy gay guys in Bangkok with good jobs and/or affluent families. Don't totally write off places like DJ station and soi 4 though... Some, not all of these boys DO want to meet farangs their own age and DO go to these places. It is hard to tell them apart from the money boys gold diggers though.
I have a few friends on Bangkok who exclusively chase farangs. Usually their own age though, they are not after sugar daddies. They just want guys of a similar age.

I agree with all that went before.
However my post addressed the basic fact that this is a young guy visiting Bangkok for the 1st time and who wsnts to meet with gay Thais of similar age.
I think having a local who knows the scene such as the guides offered by the Big Boss here is a good idea to start off with.

Most of those I met make sure in one way or another that I'm going to pay, or rather make it precondition for meeting. That someone invites me is extremely rare in Thailand (but happens often in Myanmar and in the southern provinces: Songkla, Pattani).
