Our favourite Log Cabin Republican black guy will be along momentarily (yes, we have one)

Re: black gay in Thailand
Many encounters we describe in this forum are essentially cash transactions. The good thing is that the only color matters is on the money note you plan to foolishly spend thinking more is going on

Re: black gay in Thailand
You shouldn't have any problems on the commercial sex scene where, as has been said, money rules. But prejudice against blacks does exist in Thailand. I had a friend who was an ebony-black American; he lived in Pattaya for several years but eventually returned to the US completely disillusioned with Thais and Thailand. He described disrespectful treatment in restaurants and shops, staring in the streets, that kind of thing. Some might have the personality to brush off such incidents but they ground my friend down in the end.

Agreed. The notion of "money opens all legs" might apply in Pattaya but as we know it caters to the lowest common denominator. In Bangkok it's well-known there are gogo bars where the boys choose to work because the customers are mostly Asian and others where they choose to work because the customers mostly aren't Asian. I've had boys who respond to a request for a threesome with "Threesome, yes; with another Asian boy, no". The racism of some Thais is boundless; some will refuse to go with Indians for example or with Saudis. I certainly have encountered some who would refuse a black man if asked. That's why I suggested we wait for a pronouncement from bucknaway who is, AFAIK, our only black member

Re: black gay in Thailand
There have been a few black mbs available on Planet Romeo in the last couple of years....one of whom a friend speaks very highly . He certainly looked cute. A francophone with decent English. I've seen black guys in both Babylon and Sansuk.
As far as the Thai guys themselves are concerned, frequent is undoubtedly correct. From a political perspective, people who are deemed to be on the lowest rung socially and economically can sometimes compensate by expressing superiority over a group considered even lower....though this attitude is trumped by the relative wealth of any tourist.
I can't recall the context (a James Baldwin novel perhaps?) but there's comment made by a poor white guy in a US trailer park along the lines of "If we haven't got n...... to look down on, who have we got?"

We should not be using this language. Even quoting movies. No black person needs to come here and read those words.

That is true...if they are from the U.S. they need not come here to hear it they need only to listen to the Trump!

Even more reason not to have it here.

Re: black gay in Thailand
The Thais are nothing like as self conscious as westerners when it comes to political correctness, and have no hesitation when it comes to having an opinion about different racial groups. Thai women are also as obsessed about getting whiter as western women are obsessed with getting a tan.
That's the bad news. The good news is that they often see black Americans in movies and most bar workers are quite well disposed towards meeting them for real. Some will be shy about sitting with you, but plenty will oblige.
The one group most bar workers won't touch with a barge pole are the Indians and Pakistanis - they have a dire reputation for trying to get sex on the cheap, and being less than pleasant in the bedroom.

Re: black gay in Thailand
All true. But, I wonder if it is not true that this attitude is common in all of East Asia. I have encountered such attitudes to the nth degree in Tokyo. Plenty of bars when a Gaijan is not welcome.
Some years ago I was on a business trip to China. I was younger and proud of all my passport stamps. My Colleagues and I had come on some sort of group business visa with invitations from the ministry of Tourism so our paperwork was all done.
When clearing immigration I asked for a stamp. The young man happily stamped my passport while beaming a welcome. Immediately behind me was my black colleague who asked for one. He was stone-faced and categorically refused it.
Having said that you will face little of that in the commercial bars. At most, if a guy does not want to go with you an excuse of booked up or something will be made to be polite.

What kind of stamp was that? All countries I traveled to, stamping in and out was not at the discretion of the immigration officer or on request of the tourist.
-
Re: black gay in Thailand
Christian. Many years ago it was common.for immigration staff not to stamp your passport unless requested to do so. These days you need to get a visa and passport stamp to go anywhere. My passport is less than 2 1/2 years old and nearly half full with stamps.
-
Re: black gay in Thailand
Christian, Aresenal is quite right. This was in 1989, just before the Tiananmen protest. The company i worked for had a consulting contract regarding tourism promotions and we were met by officials and escorted through like diplomatic staff. I paused and asked the young man for some sort of stamp as a mememto - he kindly gave me one. Just ideograms. God knows what it says. The point is he was kind to me yet refused to acknowledge the black person behind me. For decades I nevefr got a stamp returning to the US.
-
Re: black gay in Thailand
You never get a stamp from your own country. Still dont.
You never got a stamp in Europe if you were a visitor from another European country.
Everywhere else I always got one.
-
Re: black gay in Thailand
Gerefan,
I don't know how this became a passport stamp discussion. But, for years the US did not stamp, post 9/11 they did. now they scan your passport and don't stamp it - they stamp the customs form. Again Europe stamped for years then traveling intra EU you did not even see immigration . Whether the EU is now stamping I don't know or Frankly care as the point of my story was that a black person behind me was refused.

Oh and on the stamp thing I recently got stopped going into Thailand because I'd a new passport with NO stamps in it ! I wasn't even thinking about the passport lady or immigration control when I noticed her speaking to me, I'd to stop and re concentrate to hear her asking "why no stamps" and had to ask her to repeat the question! She then did but added with a suspicious look in her yet...."new passport? why ?" to which I said "yes it is of course, as you can see by the recent issue date" ( which needless to say didn't go down well :-) So, I've had to make a point of ensuring everywhere DOES now stamp it everywhere I go just to fill a page or two to avoid the worrying and accusatorial looks of am I some "CDNMatt" playing "ohhh I the spilt my coffee on it and ruined my old passport" but for some underhand reason to avoid the suspicious looks from them !
Oh and getting back to the subect at hand the only and main comment I've heard Thai boys saying about Black people when they said they wouldn't go with them was " noooo, to big, hurt" - but I'm guessing that's more to do with hearsay than practice plus lets be honest several of the guys I'm thinking of could have managed a large marrow with ease and hardly noticed ! :-)

I recall very clearly in 1993 seeing a restaurant on second road with a notice in the window that stated: "No Blacks!" It made me feel very uncomfortable. I thought... London circa 1950s??
I felt uncomfortable because it was a medical team of black nurses and doctors in Wolverhampton that saved my brother - a white senior police officer in the Met - when he was at death's door! They were black and knew that my brother was a police officer within a police force that was condemned by Sir William Macpherson, some years later in 1997, as being 'institutionally racist'. I think Bill (Cluny, now retired and living in Scotland, head of the Macpherson clan in those days) could have added 'homophobic' to his list of shortcomings in 1997!
As the Thais claim to do: seek to judge a person by the warmth of their heart! Now, whether or not the Thais do so on every occasion, it is, nevertheless, how I seek to judge people that I encounter.

I believe for every drop of rain that falls, A flower grows, I believe that somewhere in the darkest night. A candle glows, I believe for everyone that goes astray, Someone will come to show the way, I believe, I believe.......oh no wait, that's a song !!!!

That's absolutely correct. It was their habit of not tipping that lead to Scandic Massage introducing the 'pay up front' policy.

Another couple of posters who don't understand the difference between cynicism (ie. exploiting another's weakness) and scepticism (ie. the suspension of naive belief)

You didn't give a description of yourself other than being a feminine, African bottom. Generally speaking, the more western-educated and better-travelled the Thai person, the fewer issues he or she will have with ethnic diversity and skin colour. That said, Asian tops generally prefer bottoms who are tightly or compactly built, athletic or muscular, with a tanned or fair complexion. Being slightly fem is OK, a pretty face is a bonus. But if you're built like RuPaul you might encounter some problems as most tops aren't keen on bottoms who are bigger and taller than they are.
As for the commercial scene, I can't really say but some boys may have developed a certain impression of a particular ehtnic group or nationality based on their past dealings with them. Those in Pattaya or who spend a lot of time with older white men, may have had the prejudices of this latter group rubbed off on them (for eg hating jews, Arabs, Germans, etc).
You say you're African. From the continent or of African origin? Some Thais won't make a distinction but those who do, might be more wary of a Nigerian than, say, an African-American because the former has garnered a less than savoury reputation for themselves in SE Asia because of their cons and scams.

Do we really need to bring this debate into SGT too? It's being dragged all over news channels in the US especially right now.
He's not being a dictator, he's being human. Don't be racist. Not really that difficult.
It's 2018, both the KK and Nazis lost. No need to drag up that shit.

lemy, I suggest you post your inquiry on this forum:
