I recommend Rabbi Poxxx - if the tunnel does flood, he can save everyone from drowning by simply parting the waters like his forebear did.

Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
OK, Latin, you can man the camera. I'll stand on your shoulders.
Just make sure you turn up at the right tunnel - blind as a bat Matt may be able to guide you - as judging from your bar reviews, you have a habit of getting confused as to which bar you are in!
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
Let's send Freakybum. Worst case scenario is it floods, and who'd miss him?
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
I was in Chiang Mai during a thunderstorm that left the area in front of Maya mall flooded, but the northern bypass tunnel was dry when I rode through it on a car shortly after. So they seem to be able to build a tunnel that does not flood.
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
Am I the only one who was shocked that Bangkok now has a subway? I had always assumed that as impossible due to the water table. This tunnel should be a breeze.

Perhaps you would like to volunteer personally. Before you do, however, you might want to rent some SCUBA gear . . .
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
Well we really need someone local who doesn't have a full time job, has both a car and a bike to test both and who has some means to tell as many people as possible about it so.......

But why did you sit on the car? Was it some kind of precaution in case the tunnel did flood?
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
I was in the car. My focus was on drive (which would imply I'm at the steering wheel) versus ride (I'm a passenger) which I messed up before.
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
I take it that English is not your native language and if that is so small mistakes are to be expected.
Most reasonable people know this.
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
Since christian is fluent in at least three languages, it is not appropriate for a monolingual to call him out on the use of a preposition.
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
I don't usually object when the Thais in my circle finish their sentences with a proposition.
Re. The Pattaya project etc
I'm impressed by what Thailand has achieved in terms of the many projects that have been successfully completed.
Some were joint ventures with foreign companies but so what?
The Sky Train and the underground systems work very well in Bangkok. As was already mentioned the water table is very close to the surface there.
However there are big challenges ahead for BKK if sea levels rise.
I think the Dutch Dykes are the only hope.
It was commonly predicted that the Airport Rail Link would never happen because of the Taxi lobby etc but it did happen and it's now making our lives easier when we grace the LOS with our collective presence.

Thanks for your support, but:
I consider myself fluent in two languages (German and English),
and having a good understanding of written French, Russian, Thai.
I don't know how many languages sglad speaks, do you?
I'm always open for corrections of my writings.
Even I recognized that one (in/on the car) as a joke in the context of flooding.
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
I believe he just speaks English but I could be wrong. He has never mentioned his linguistic accomplishments so he might be multilingual for all we know.
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
In other words a cunning linguist?
Tongues will wag!

So we often see "Ko Samet", "Ko Samui", "Ko Phi Phi" when it should be Kok Samet, Kok Samui, etc.
we can safely assume that sglad cannot read and write Thai. But being Singaporean, he might speak other languages of Singapore.

Indecent ones? I wouldn't object to those either! *nudge*nudge*wink*wink*

Scottie, thank you for that post #18. I am still chuckling. You have made my day. :D

Not a safe assumption at all; read some of his posts, in particular the last page of the thread I started called "My Isaan adventure"

Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
I have it on good authority that Mr G.Button esq. of Dark Side Lane, Pattaya, has agreed to ride his bicycle through the tunnel during any forthcoming rains to check for leakage and safety. My understanding is that he will be accompanied on this exciting adventure by his longstanding associate Mr M.Seasons. I am sure we are all looking forward to their reports.
Re: The Pattaya Road Tunnel
Bicycles?
They'll be on Penny-Farthings surely

Are you referring to this post?
https://sawatdeenetwork.com/v4/showt...l=1#post217825
That's all correct what he says, but can be found somewhere on the internet or in books.
Whereas "island" kok is nowhere to be found and is wrong.
