Book "Paying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
A while ago, I read a book review (in German) about a book тАЬIch bezahle f├╝r SexтАЭ (in English: тАЬI pay for sexтАЭ, original title: тАЬPaying for it - A Comic-Strip Memoir about Being a JohnтАЭ. The author split with his girlfriend and decided to stop dating and see prostitutes instead as kind of a lifestyle choice.
I thought this book must be the perfect birthday present for BeachloverтАЩs 80th next year!
And the subject might be of interest for other on this board as well. I havenтАЩt read the book, but here a quote from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Paying-It-Chester ... 992&sr=8-1
Quote:
Brown calmly lays out the facts of how he became not only a willing participant in but a vocal proponent of one of the worldтАЩs most hot-button topicsтАФprostitution. While this may appear overly sensational and just plain implausible to some, BrownтАЩs story stands for itself. Paying for It offers an entirely contemporary exploration of sex workтАФfrom the timid john who rides his bike to his escorts, wonders how to tip so as not to offend, and reads Dan Savage for advice, to the modern-day transactions complete with online reviews, seemingly willing participants, and clean apartments devoid of clich├йd street corners, drugs, or pimps.
Complete with a surprise ending, Paying for It provides endless debate and conversation about sex work and will be the most talkedabout graphic novel of 2011.
As a Farang sex tourist in Thailand, I can only add: Prostitution is the best thing since sliced bread!
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
I'm wondering what the phrase "complete with surprise ending" actually means. :dontknow:
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
Interesting lifestyle choice... I wonder why he consciously made that decision..
Christian... Prostitution has been around longer than sliced bread!
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
The comparision of sliced bread with prostitution was a joke.
How to talk about places you havenтАЩt visited
"How to talk about places you havenтАЩt visited"
On a recent holiday in Vienna, I saw another book that would make a great gift for Beachlover: тАЬHow to talk about places you havenтАЩt visitedтАЭ by Pierre Bayard. (my translation, the book is only available in French (original: comment parler des lieux o├╣ l'on n'a pas ├йt├й ?) and German (translation: Wie man ├╝ber Orte spricht, an denen man nicht gewesen ist).

But another book by Pierre Bayard in the same vein is available in English

Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
Aoplogies for going off-topic, but -
MiniMee your constant sniping at me on this subject is becoming ludicrous and boring. When I joined this board I was unaware that I was obliged to keep you informed of my movements - please clarify the position.
FYI, since 1999 I have missed being in Thailand only in ONE year, because that year I re-visited Prague instead after an absence of over 10 years. Some years I have visitedThailand twice. Mostly I visit in Low season because that fits in with holiday periods better for me - but I have also visited in High season.
No offence, but there are very few people on these boards that I would have any interest in meeting when in Thailand and I am quite capable to contacting those people personally - therefore I have no intention of broadcasting to all and sundry when and where I will be at any given time.
So, basically, as far as I'm concerned you can either take my reports, comments, or observations at face value - or not, as you please.
Rest assured that your opinion bothers me about as much as my next bowel movement. In fact, less.
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
Yes, most here agree that it is unwise to pre-announce your travel plans to LoS тАУ far too many nutters around that are best avoided. Remember jinksтАЩ attempts to log everyoneтАЩs travel plans in тАЩourтАЩ calendar?
But I still donтАЩt believe, despite your vague protestations, that you have actually visited LoS for several years now. You never post anything remotely topical but simply speculate or reminisce on the dim and distant past. So for me the тАШface valueтАЩ of your posts remains low.
I on the other hand am a frequent visitor and was in town just last week. I dropped in on the Grand Opening at Zeus on Friday, which was fun but has been very quiet since.
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
I was in Berlin a couple of weeks ago, had a great time, told one or two people on here about it in PM at the time, but haven't posted anything "topical" on that either - so no doubt I'm lying about that too?
Fact of the matter is that wherever I am I probably more interested in having a good time than in posting to a forum about the size of this boys cock or the slackness of that boy's bunghole, or about the price of a beer in Eldorado bar as opposed to the Fat Landlady bar (both of which I visited btw), or how much an Entrecote steak with a half litre of Chianti cost in Il Pianoforte restaurant in the Fuggerstrasse.
Perhaps you'd like me to get a local to take pics of me, wherever I visit, holding up that day's local/national newspaper?
I repeat, since 1999 I have missed being in Thailand in ONE year (and that was 2012) - if you actually have any substantial evidence that I invent stuff, let's have it - instead of mere assertion all the damned time.
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
scotty you sad
"Rest assured that your opinion bothers me about as much as my next bowel movement. In fact, less."
so after 2 posts now that are rather pointed, can we now assume there will be daily updates about future shites ?
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
So, will you give Thailand a miss in 2013 too?
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
Jesus minimee give the guy a break - he's answered your question if you don't like the answer ( or believe it) up to you but fuck me it's boring and a but unnecessary to keep banging on about it when SG has given you a clear, specific, definitive and direct answer to your original direct question - and lets face as there's no way (of any of us) proving where we were or weren't "last year" or any other time ( or a need to even) it's all a bit pointless surely. You've said your bit and that you don't believe him etc and he's basically said "well there you go believe what you like" and that surely is that without the constant need for sniping or banging on about it.
When I asked Latin the same type of question a few weeks back about being "real" he answered that question, directly and specifically, do I necessarily believe maybe, maybe not, but to then call him a liar after him stating for the record that he was "real" ( in that case) doesn't exactly lend itself to a conducive board I wouldn't have thought.
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
NIrish - when you look at his last post you can see what the real agenda is. Draw your own conclusions.
Re: Book тАЮPaying for itтАЬ by Chester Brown
The conclusion I draw from your last post is that you won't be visiting this year either.
