Since the National Council of Peace and Order (NCPO) has taken control of the Thai administration, criticism of its handling of the economy has been widespread. While critics have focused on the juntaтАЩs lack of expertise and the short-term outcomes of its economic policies, there has been little attention on its distinctive strategies. This paper focuses on the conjuncture in ThailandтАЩs political economy, which provides a unique context in which the junta is conditioned to respond. Based on its conviction that various types of workforce each have their own place in society, the junta has responded to the policy recommendations of state agencies, technocrats as well as business interests with predictable but highly contentious results.... In Thailand, a military-appointed council has rejected a draft constitution and the election has been postponed to no sooner than July, 2017. An extension of the military regime means political instability will persist and undermine ThailandтАЩs economic competitiveness.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership, an outgrowth of the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement, was conceived in January 2008 and has since been the subject of much huffing and puffing amongst political pundits. Single Gateway for Internet Still Under Study, Minister Says
