I'm not sure how "cultural" tattoos are; I see them as more of a fashion, one that has grown in the last fifteen years but was unusual in earlier times. They are a complete turn-off for me too, by the way.

Probably true, but not the reason why some Thai guys on the scene have them. Any more than British people choose them now- nothing to do with the traditions of the Royal Navy.
