As for the bars that were open last year, some will open again and some are closed and will not open again, as soon as things get clear I will update the total list
Ohh, really, Double Shot moved to Complex? Then, only Lek is left at that side? I hope we can keep two gogos there at least :-(

When I was last in Pattaya in April there was nothing left in Sunee adjacent to the old Double Shot bar.
What is Lek? Never heard of it.

(mama) Lek has been running bars in Sunee for many years. Her last bar was opposite Double Shot. It must have been the old Yaya bar or next door. It was nice to sit there with a view of Double Shot and further into the second parallel street of Sunee. The days that Double Shot was closed made the area very unappealing.

Lek's Bar is known as One Bar.

Is that the same Lek that worked as a cashier for Monty in his B&B ( Looms For Rent )?

No, Lek is a nice woman, who had managed boy bars for over 30 years. She cashed also ... but not for Monty :))

Even though Monty's place wasn't exactly plush....LOL...I stayed there regularly because Monty was interesting and he let me know the goings on around SP. After he moved to JC, I stayed in Howard's, a few times, never really liked it but it was convenient. I often dropped in to see Monty in his place in JC ,The Enchanted Hut or something, it wasn't the same. Later visits it was usually an apartment in one of the View Talays. God I miss those days, I had a life in Paradise and never realised it until it was gone. Back then, what a time to be alive, fit and healthy. I should be thankful I at least got to experience it, as in all probability, we may never see the likes of it again!

Much the same in Amsterdam. And London. Blame social media and the moves towards integration.
But thanks Halcyon.... a fascinating review . Many memories recalled..

Correct. One Bar is on same side as Winner Bar but closer to Diamond Bar.

I remember sitting in Windows (a cafe/restaurant) in HCMC, Vietnam with a good friend. This place was frequented by gays just like many other bars, clubs and such in the city. It must have been the middle of 2000 and Bluetooth was becoming popular. You could use your Bluetooth to contact boys who were near you but it would always be a shot in the dark. So we were discussing how great it would be to be able to... (well, from this point, we were basically describing apps like Romeo, Hornet, blued etc.)
I wonder how many people have been hoping for such technical possibilities and are cursing it now, just like me.

But that is not where Lek is/was. Lek is/was opposite Skybar and Double Shot.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Madam Lek had a bar in Sunee opposite Crazy Pub named La Copa, then later changed the name to Lek's Beer Bar and moved much later opposite Sky Bar and Double Shot and named it One Bar (didn't stay there too long) and when that street was completely dark (all bars closed) moved on the same side as Winner Boys Bar and Diamond Bar.

Good to know!
I was in Pattaya in January 2020, I've missed these moves.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Castro in Boyz Town is renovating. That's good news. It means that it looks like that at least the first Soi will be opening again after the lockdown, which seems to last a long time. The Covid numbers in Thailand, Chonburi and Pattaya are not good, but hope is there. I hope more bars will be ready as soon as things are close to "normal" again.
-
Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Are they enclosing their premises? Throb and Cockpit were immensely successful ; the arrival of "open" show bars and the subsequent late-night noise was an important to contribution to Boyztown losing its appeal. It certainly lost Ambiance custom, including that of P and myself.
-
Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Sorry, I don't know that yet. Will try to get an update on that and other bars as there might be a possibility that next month curfew and lockdowns are over, but that is for now a 50\50 chance. Bangkok seems to have a 70% vaccination rate but Pattaya a 7% rate, so it all depends what's happening in the coming weeks

I can't find any official statistics for Bangkok but I would be hugely surprised if the city is anywhere close to 70%. Even 30% for those with two doses seems extremely high. Bear in mind that many of the early vaccinations, especially for front line workers, were of Sinovac and these people now need another jab of a different vaccine. But I hope I am wrong.
-
Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
You are right ... after 2 shots of Sinovac you need a booster like Astra Zeneca or Pfizer. But to stay at the subject: Pikky's Bar is now officially named: Pikky's Pub, not that important but just that you know :))
-
Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Despite an earlier mention that BuBu Bar in the Complex would be closed and the owner put it up for sale, the latest is that it will open again as soon as the lockdown of bars is lifted.
-
Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
@home bar in the Complex is waiting to open and are serving coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks despite rumors that it would shot down. Zak, the owner, looked great this morning. It seems that there will be an end to the lockdown of bars in the coming month or months but at least before the New Year. Hope is there. But as we all now the rules can change here by the minute.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
The new Dragon Music Lounge in the Complex in Jomtien will have a soft opening on 15 October from 16.00 till 22.00 hrs. There will be music, food and non-alcoholic drinks. Hopefully on the 1st of November we will see a full opening without curfew and with alcoholic drinks.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
From the list I posted, most is going on in The Complex. The following bars are open for a drink and some have food as well. Add Home Bar, Bubu Bar, Dick's Cafe, Dragon Music Lounge, Divarium / QM2, Question Mark, Gaga, The Palace and a new name on the block is MP Meeting Place. Another new name is YOYO it's the first bar on the left when you walk in from Thappraya Rd. The street itself looks more tempting than in the last year as more lights are on in the evening. Also restaurants like Yupins, Dolce Vita are open while Poseidon is renovating now but will open soon. The massage shops like Soda Massage add to the lights.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
I have to add to the list, going there tonight, Adonis Bar, Lucky Bar, Guy Guy Bar, Cocka 2 Bar, Art Cafe and for cheap food Soda Food. It's really getting more like old times and Sun Bar, Dorothy's Show Bar are just on the edge of opening. It was not really busy but most enjoyable .... finally :))

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
I was yesterday around and while Boyz Town and Sunee are still almost dark, The Complex is vibrating, most venues are open to serve you. Many new names for old bars. More smiling boys around than in the last year and while the number of boys and foreigners is still not what it used to be, the percentage is the same. Fun nights are here again. Halleluja :drink:

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
My last update of the list was in last June. In the meantime changes were made and till today the full list is 444 gay places. But no use posting yet, because after 10 days of a kind of open, all is closed again, probably till at least 16 January. As soon as bars are allowed to open I will give you the full list and the gay places that are open. But still got some memories from the last century.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Update on the current situation as on 15th December: in the Complex almost every bar (including 4T bar that was supposted to be closed) is open and serving alcohol (with an easily obtained restaurant certificate) and it was the busiest day of the year till now. The Venue is sold, but some boys were rehearsing, so the show must go on. Sunee Plaza was dark except for Winner Boys gogo with boys around. Boyz Town was also dark and empty. Pikky's Pub has not taken over Cupidol as I mentioned earlier, it has taken over Oscar's next to Serene Bar. By the looks of it all once the lockdown on gogo's is over there will be: Winner Boys gogo, N'Boys gogo, X-Men gogo, Cupidol gogo, Dream Boys gogo, A-Bomb and Boyz Boyz Boyz.
-
Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Happy to say that I can add the word OPEN to many bars on my list. As for now tonight not only most bars in The Complex are open but also in Boyz Town that is Panorama, Pikky's Pub, X-Boys, Castro and Boyz Boyz Boyz will open their doors. So at the moment about 20 bars will welcome you :clapping::))

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Not only that, but a couple of Sunnee bars have been open. Admittedly rather quiet.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Just so everyone knows, the Gogo bars I've seen are open for outdoor bar service, not Gogo. I'll be pleased to be corrected or updated on that.
DD Inn looks like a lady bar these days, at least when I have been past in the late afternoon. Or have I not looked closely enough ? (Not that I would want to)

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Some of those maps I recognize as being from OUT in Thailand (numbers in dots of different colors). I think OUT in Thailand always had publication year and month printed, but some of the other gay magazines had not and you have to do detective work to date them!
OUT in Thailand had inaccuracies in their maps. Some were pointed out by readers and hopefully corrected in further editions.

OUT in Thailand was one of the better free gay magazines IMHO. It was published by a guy in Chiang Mai and he was able to get some very good exclusive interviews, as with Sir Ian McKellan. It ceased publication when he left Thailand for reasons which I have never seen explained. Many of the old copies can be seen on this site -
https://issuu.com/out-in-thailand
As for maps, I remember there was quite a debate at the time Christianpfc mentions, especially about the difficulty of keeping maps up to date unless the publisher has a small army of volunteers obtaining and checking that information. That's impossible, in my view. Maps in freebie magazines can only be be regarded as giving approxmiate locations, the more so when the venues themselves frequently had very general locations on their websites. All the freebie mags had the same venue location issues. It would have been a different matter if such publications had to be purchased.
But the various freebie magazines catering to the English-Speaking market seem to have gone the way of the dodo.

Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
The same is true of Spartacus.

Yes there was, I think the most heated debate took place on then gaythailand (now gayguides). OUT in Thailand asked readers to update his maps, whereas the normal tourist would take the maps for guidance. Not so much locations, some maps in gay magazines list places that are long out of business.
A friend one brought a newly bought Spartacus, let's say the 2014 edition. The data was researched in 2013, and half of the places moved or changed name or went out of business when I read the Spartacus Thailand section in 2014.
Internet used to have more accurate information (because more recent) than books, but now in Covid times, things change even quicker than internet can follow and before I go somewhere, I call or ask a friend who is nearby to see if the place is open.
-
Re: The LIST of GAY BARS and GOGO's in PATTAYA from 1980 till now
Many of the guides published on paper or the internet end up out of date very quickly. That's probably due to the short life of many businesses. Sometimes combined with people losing interest in maintaining their website or publication.
Google Maps can be better, however even they foul it up. For instance, Panorama is showing as temporarily closed. I suggested an edit, including a photo of it open, taken on my Android device. Google even ought to be able to detect that customers like me have used the bar from their phones. They still have not changed the status to open. Whether or not they accept my edits seems to follow some kind of random process.
There are also strange examples of businesses moving location and not updating Google maps. e.g. C and B barbers moved from Thaniya to Patpong. They didn't update their location and eventually I did it for them.
