To 15 November - Phra Samut Chedi Fair The main event of the year in Samut Prakan is the Phra Samut Chedi Temple Fair which is held on both sides of the river. This is a celebration of the chedi for nine days and nine nights commencing the fifth waning moon day of the 11th lunar month. This is usually in October. In preparation for this important event, many people work together in sewing a large red cloth to wrap around the chedi. The event starts with a parade on the east bank of the river. Students from all around the province take part. Starting at the City Hall, the red cloth and the large parade winds itself through the streets of Samut Prakan before ending back at the river. Here the red cloth is transported upriver to Phra Pradaeng where the local people there have an opportunity to pay their respects. The journey ends at Phra Samut Chedi, about four hours after it started. Here, the cloth is ceremoniously paraded clockwise around the temple three times. Members of the Rungjaeng family are the only ones allowed to climb up the steep chedi to wrap the sacred cloth around it. The temple fair itself then starts. It is a massive event taking place in more than one location. Not only are there stalls around Phra Samut Chedi but also on the east bank where the city hall is. In the evening several of the main roads are closed to traffic and people from all over the country come to buy and sell. There is much to do for children and adults. Just about everything can be bought here and there are plenty of games to play too. For example shooting and big wheel rides. There is a large variety of food on offer. From fried grasshoppers to shark fin! The roads are so packed with people that it takes forever to walk a few paces. More information: www.paknam.com/festivals/phra-samut-che ... -fair.html

Opening Reception 5:00 pm Opening Reception and exhibition The Patricia Cheesman Collection. 5pm until 7pm at Studio Naenna - Main Gallery 138/8 Soi Chang Khian A journey into the past along the silk threads of the Tai Phuan ancestors : With gold in the rivers, silver in the mountains, ivory and benjoin in the forests and fertile rolling hills, Muang Phuan was literally a тАЬPhuan Savan", Phuan Heaven. The temples rang with bells and the people adorned themselves in silks of red, yellow, orange and green. This haven was ravaged many times in history and still the people returned. But those who fled or were taken too far, resettled in new homes and adopted new identities and in some cases , changed their name. Due to the popularity of our Pattaya Pantos, seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so you are encouraged to arrive early! This is a laugh-a-minute, physical comedy retelling of the old favorite fairy tale with a traditional British Panto twist. The audience is encouraged to join in the fun and the acting is over the top with jokes suitable for all ages! The Ducal family are always arguing. Their son is unhappy. The fairy godmother turns them into bears until they learn to agree. They continue to argue. Then along comes Goldilocks - an empty-headed beauty with a man-hungry, lonely, widow mother. What is a Fairy Godmother to do? Deciding that love is the key, she plays Cupid. But has she gone a little too far when the two woodcutters get caught in the amorous spells? Goldie breaks into the bear's cottage and eats their porridge, breaks a chair and falls asleep in Baby Bear's bed. The bears discover her red-handed. Everything seems to be going from bad to worse. Hopefully, it will turn out right in the end, but will they all live happily ever after? The venue line-up and performance details are as follows: ** Friday, November 16th -- The Venue, Jomtien @ 7:30 PM - http://www.thevenuejomtien.com This performance features the only "full stage" experience and will be followed by the ever-popular Venue Cabaret show (no advance reservations).
