Military summons 6 people allegedly involved with anti-draft charter letters

The military in Chiang Mai has summoned six people and accused them of sedition without court approval, alleging that they were involved with the letters containing material criticizing the junta’s draft charter...(read more)...

Southern anti-election protest leader gets suspended jail term

Two years after the 2014 coup d’état, a provincial court in southern Thailand handed a suspended jail term to a leader of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), an anti-election protest.
The Provincial Court of the Southern Province of Ranong on Wednesday, 27 July 2016, handed a one year and six months jail term with 30,000 baht fine to Sucheep Patthong, a leader of the PDRC protester in Ranong.
According to the verdict, Sucheep has also lost his rights to participate in elections for five years. However, the court halved the sentenced to nine months imprisonment and 15,000 fine as Sucheep pleaded guilty. His jail term is suspended for two years....
