Re: Protests update
But unlike Trump, Duterte was actually the last into the race, submitting his papers on the last possible day. Sadly, it is largely the horrendous poverty in much of the country that leads to ignorance of - and a lack of desire even to comprehend - the main issues and the concentration on men (other than Cory Aquino) with the ability to control the news cycle - whatever nonsense they say.

Thailand: UN Review Highlights Junta’s Hypocrisy
End Downward Rights Spiral, Restore Civilian Rule
(Geneva) – The Thai government’s pledges to the United Nations Human Rights Council to respect human rights and restore democratic rule have been mostly meaningless, Human Rights Watch said today. On February 12, the Thai government submitted a report to the Human Rights Council, saying that it “attaches utmost importance to the promotion and protection of human rights of all groups of people.”.... (read more)....

Analysis: A Day of Reckoning for Junta’s Thailand on UN Rights Stage
BANGKOK — When more than 100 U.N. member states convened Wednesday in Geneva for a semiannual review of human rights conditions in Thailand, it wasn’t intended to be a “name and shame” session.
But coming at a time the nation is under military rule, that’s pretty much how it ended up.
