Since Thailand’s military displaced a democratically elected government in 2014, the country has been ruled arbitrarily by a junta fronted by old-time strongman General Prayut Chan-o-cha. The junta governed using martial law for a period of ten months before invoking a special clause in their interim constitution which was designed to keep Thai society under the jackboot. Article 44 of the constitution — often dubbed “the dictator’s law” by its critics — retained many of the prerogatives of martial law, giving the military sweeping powers which it has used to silence opposition and push through reforms..... There was;not sure if he qualifies as a lobbyist though. Thaksin hired him as a lawyer and adviser to the "red shirts", the UDD, in the 2010 political protests. Amsterdam called Suthep the Thai Taliban responding to Suthep's critique of his "farang" meddling in 2014 after he spoke at a "red shirt" rally.

Families of Detained Facebookers Speak Out
BANGKOK — The sun had yet to rise when armed soldiers surrounded their homes and took their sons and daughter into custody.
In a coordinated operation, soldiers arrested eight Facebookers in one swoop and took them to army bases for interrogation. Authorities only disclosed their alleged crimes a day later: running Facebook pages that insulted junta chairman Prayuth Chan-ocha and his military regime.

Prayuth Defends Abducting ‘Facebook Eight’
BANGKOK — Junta chairman Prayuth Chan-ocha said security officers acted within the law in their abduction and prosecution of eight people accused of running anti-government Facebook pages.
The eight suspects, who were taken away from their homes last week by soldiers without warrants, are now being held in prison to await their trial under martial court. Gen.
