A Prayer Before Dawn - Movie
For those of you interested in Thai boxing or an insight into Thai prisons ( or random violence, rape and murder it seems too ! ) the movie " A Prayer before Dawn" is out now.
It basically tells the story of a guy from liverpool who was arrested in Chang Mai for drug and theft offences and tells of his time in various Thai prisons and what he witnessed there and how he used That boxing to get through it all.
Like all movies it's "mainly" based on the truth but a few small story lines seem to have been added or changed for the sake of the movie, but having read which parts they're actually very minimal.
note - this is quite a tough, violent movie so if that's not your thing best not bother watching it perhaps.
One thing it does remind us ( not that we'd ever forget) is you never want to find yourself ending up in ANY Thai prison that's for sure !!

Upon NIrish"s recommendation I'm 20 minutes in and it's brutal. Actually scary even just to watch. The land of the smile stops at the prison gates.

Good movie, the British guy is super handsome, almost makes me want to go to jail, maybe for 1 week or so.
Is there such thing as prison tourism in Thailand? All inclusive package deal, and tourist gets to choose his cell mate, of course, (or mates). Maybe an hour every day in general population, too.
Local tourism authorities could market these weekly tours as extreme sports.

They have overdone the tattoos somewhat!

If anyone is still in any doubt about the wisdom of getting involved in anything under the counter in Siam a re-viewing of Big Trouble in Thailand should dissuade you.
